Re: The OFFICIAL business travel whining thread
All of my flying back and forth this year has finally gotten me Gold status on American Airlines. I'm not really clear on what all that's gonna do for me, but it seems nice.
Totally Kafkaesque
Re: The OFFICIAL business travel whining thread
I have it. IMO the only true, consistent benefits are earning bonus miles on every trip and being able to book "premium" seats for no cost at check it. Since airlines have started charging for every seat that isn't a middle seat or not in the back 1/4 of the airplane, it makes it nice to get a decent seat at no cost.Shirley wrote:All of my flying back and forth this year has finally gotten me Gold status on American Airlines. If your into the first class upgrades read up on their 500 mile upgrade system.

Early boarding is also nice perk for status. Great not to have to worry about whether there will be overhead space for your carry-on suitcase.

Re: The OFFICIAL business travel whining thread
yeah.. on United, Gold gets you group 2 -- better be in the front of that group.. otherwise no guarantee your carryon is getting stashed anywhere near you (which makes for a fun landing/deplaning experience.)sancarlos wrote:Early boarding is also nice perk for status. Signed up for TSA Precheck, paid the $85, went through the whole background check and fingerprinting pain in the ass and printing out a boarding pass for a flight tomorrow and...nothing about precheck on it. Damn it.
(The flight was booked before I had my traveller ID, but I had added it to my Southwest account and had hoped it would work.)

Been to Winnipeg a few times, but never remember doing anything memorable. It's a nice enough place. Not sure if Travzilla is still lurking -- he might have some ideas.

Heading to the MACC game tomorrow. Any good places downtown Detroit that are a must?
Re: The OFFICIAL business travel whining thread
Near Ford Field, Grand Trunk Pub has a great beer list and is a bit of a walk, but not too crazy. Detroit Beer Company has pretty good beers of their own. Red Smoke Barbecue in Greektown is really good if you like BBQ. Pizza Papalis right down the street has the best Chicago-style pizza you can get outside of Chicago (if that's your thing).Mulligan wrote:Heading to the MACC game tomorrow. Definitely hit the beer places. BBQ sounds good. Staying on Jefferson street about 10 blocks away. Thanks!
Re: The OFFICIAL business travel whining thread
My favorite downtown restaurant is Republic Tavern. Farm-to-table with emphasis on meat. On Grand River.Mulligan wrote:Heading to the MACC game tomorrow. Any good places downtown Detroit that are a must?
