Emerson. Lake. (and...)

Post by sancarlos »

Yep. Keyboardist for 1970s prog band, Emerson Lake and Palmer. Kids, I'm telling you, he was a big deal back in the day.

Never a fan of ELP, even when I was stoned and listening to other Prog bands.

They were just too, too much.

I wasn't an Emerson fan. They should have taped joints to any album he put out, because that was the only way most people could sit through both sides.

But I have to say that this creative re-working of Mussorgsky was a revelation to me at a time when I had played the original many times as a trombonist in a classical orchestra, and learned to dislike it.

When I was 12 years old, I was playing all star level CF for my little league team, but boy was I striking out with the ladies.

When Greg Lake was 12 years old, he was writing "Lucky Man".

Oy vey.

I'm reading David Hajdu's History of pop music in America. Had no idea Fripp used to gig with Blondie.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

Listening to this. First minute is great. Then the 1:40 mark synthesizer stuff? Doesn't hold up, but was probably cool tech at the time. Pictures at an Exhibition is one of my favorites, so this is cool. My parents have an album of Ian Anderson playing with the London Symphony Orchestra that is pretty sweet. I went through a big Tull phase in college. Still love most of their stuff, but never liked the electronic synth shit they dabbled in during the early 80s.

My bad. Though an admin (or you?) could edit the thread title to "Emerson, Lake and...".

Wetton?

If I had ever collaborated with Carl Palmer I would be sleeping lightly.
