Larsen then had his teammates use his head as a soccer ball while prone on the ice when they were trying to defend his honor.

Colorado Avalanche forward Jarome Iginla will play in his 1,500th career game on Saturday. He will become only the 16th player in NHL history to reach that milestone
One has to wonder how much of an impact it would have had on black players/fans in hockey if he had started in NY or LA or CHI with more visibility instead of Calgary.

Dubious Records. Chris Bourque hit 600 AHL points (602 AHL games). In addition to his 600 regular-season points, Bourque ranks among the AHL’s all-time postseason leaders with 78 assists (2nd) and 107 points (5th) in 121 Calder Cup Playoff games played (4th).

Any interest in doing an "if you were starting a team right now" draft? I'll set up a thread if we get enough interest.

It's been fascinating. I think they started by just giving the King a day off. Then Raanta became the second coming of peak Dominik Hasek, and I think Vignault thought he he had to keep riding him.

And it was absolutely the right move, pretty sure Henrik said as much himself. Sitting Raanta off one or two or three (or even four) great games is deferring rather than playing the best option for the next game. What's fucking infuriating is he's willing to sit an all-time great player for performance and refuses to do the same with his defensemen beyond a one game rotation. At this point I'm convinced he's (1) simply not the guy for this roster, despite being what I believe to be a good strategic coach and (2) actively trying to piss me off.

As always, I pick Dennis Seidenberg.

I'm watching the Lundqvist/Raanta situation with interest. As D said, I'm guessing it's just a 'riding the hot hand' thing. But...what if it's more than that?

If they're going to give up McDavid, they'd probably rather have your #1 goalie, Raanta.

Do you guys watch NHL Network? I like their highlight/analysis shows. The guys seem real genuine in their banter, and I learn things from their analysis - unlike say NFL Today. Good mix of younger and older. Pleasantly surprised to see Mike Johnson making great points defending the stats-oriented approach of Florida, versus the "old-time hockey guy" view of Marty Biron (who has a charming accent, but views from the olden days.)

so much for stats-oriented Florida

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Dale Tallon is resuming control of management duties and Hockey Ops in Florida. Panthers need to get back on track and stabilize things.

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger
There won't be an overhaul in Florida, but Tallon will likely want to make some changes and add pieces after the holiday roster freeze.

Right. I'm talking day to day management and player personnel decisions. His challenge is to fix things.

Yea that's a frustration one for sure, given that Couture crossed him in the back on the breakout. Not saying it's apples and apples, just noting that wasn't a random act.

Can't wait to see how severely punished Eakin is for clearly running a goalie up high. Bet it's atleast a game, maybe even two.

Im betting (and hoping for) four. It was predatory, from behind, and intent to injure.

Not that Hoffman knew, but Couture has concussion history, too. Couture didn't come back to the game and could miss time, and (like it or not) we know that also figures into the NHL's process.

And Couture didn't "cross him in the back". He gave him a little shove to dislodge him from the puck (it's legal), like what happens thirty times a game.

We can agree to disagree. He had 2 arms straight out against his numbers.

Hoffman was out of line, but it's not like he just shived him out of the blue.

you have to factor Dillon in that play too. Hoffman's stick is lifted by Dillon.

The NHL might also consider Vlasic's maybe-spear on Karlsson and consider everything a wash.

I still think Hoffman gets 2 games.

The Vlasic/Karlsson incident has zero bearing on the Hoffman incident. Dillon and Couture did nothing sufficient to provoke that cheap shot by Hoffman.

And he should. It was a dangerous play regardless of Dillion's stick involvement or not. I was just trying to present the point that it wasn't like he ran him in the corner with no cause.
