Still a little taken aback that she would think that highly of me but it's very exciting to be asked to do something like this. Anyone else around here ever gotten ordained to marry a friend/family member? I've got no problem with public speaking, but it's a lot to think about!

Re: Random Thoughts About Thoughts Random
That is really a great honour.
Congratulations!
Our wedding was conducted by a Rabbi that we had met once for 20 minutes a week before the ceremony. He had a pulpit at a local synagogue, but he was the only "rent-a-rabbi" available on the day of our service in a downtown hotel.
He was very specific about being paid in cash. My brother (best man) hates anything to do with religion, so he thought it was hilarious that he avoided the rabbi after the ceremony and made the guy look for him for 20 minutes or so!
In hindsight, how much more meaningful to have a loved one officiate.

I think my buddy did some online thing and paid money. He's basically a watered down JP. He's married a couple of couples. The most recent was the of the ever so common "military dude gets military girl prego and he's deploying soon" variety Good times!
But congrats on everything. That's pretty cool.

A friend officiated at the wedding of a different friend. The groom and his wife are into golf, so they put all sorts of golf references and puns into the vows.

The Office (US) jumped the shark after Jim and Pam's wedding. They needed to have a way to have the other (CT) branch closer to Scranton, so as to interject the Scranton branch with some of the other office's staff here and there, and that includes Ed Helms' character. They could've cut a ton of dead weight and ended the series after Jim and Pam's wedding.

The downloadable data has any name occurring at least 100 times and I noticed a few hyphenated names, so I bet that's a decent percentage of the uniques.

Interesting that Nguyen is #38. Vietnamese-Americans aren't a particularly large group, but Nguyen accounts for like 40% of Vietnamese surnames.

My wife's surname occurs less than 100x nationally, according to the 2010 census. How do I break this news to her?
Of course, I'm sitting strong at 38,640 (572 of us nationwide)...Of course, my father was adopted, and his actual, birth-given surname would rank me #295, along with 105,079 others. That'd fill a particular Big Ten stadium...

When my first sister got married, I gave her a hard time about changing her name. Parroted the feminist lines and all that.
When we got engaged, my wife told me that she was changing hers. And it made sense, her surname is terrible.

No, it's "Klupt" Which I believe means "to smack" in yiddish or lithuanian.
