Bill Barnwell must be paid by the word.

His super bowl prediction was 7,200 words long.

That is an amazing feat.

Saw the article's headline and wanted to see his prediction. I was thrown off by how much I had to scroll to get there.

The annoying thing about how long that article was is that after all that length, he wound up going with about the most conventional of conventional wisdom reasons for picking the Patriots. He expended thousands of words to basically just say that (1) both teams have great offenses, (2) New England's defense was much better than Atlanta's during the regular season, and (3) he doesn't think Atlanta's improved defense in the postseason is sustainable, since it's a small sample size.

Thanks for Abraham Lincolning this since Barnwell all so thoroughly Edward Everetted it.

Think they could have asked the question a little better, but Brady hasn't been that great in Super Bowls. Best performance is a 23/33/236/2/0 (110.0 rating) which is pretty meh, especially by modern standards. If you're ranking performances among guys to have won Super Bowl MVPs that one would be at the bottom of the top 10 at best.

Not to say that he's been great (aside from the 2-minute drills,) but the original of that tweet had emoticons. I believe Brady was the sad or mad one, so throwing more shade than they put on the image of his face.

Forget Brady, Terrell Davis is the one who really got shafted by that poll.

Someone here brought this up in the context of Peyton's performance last year but people forget that Elway kind of sucked that game. But Davis had what is probably the strongest performance of a player in a close Superbowl that I can remember in my lifetime of watching football (my memory goes back to the early 90s). Even if you limit it to running backs, the only possible way to rank Emmit's performance over Davis' is if you punish Davis pretty harshly for his one fumble, which he more than atoned for.

I personally would go for Steve Young, even though Montana vs the Broncos had a stronger defense (89 DEN 4th vs 94 SD 18th in DVOA).

But if we're talking one quarter, Doug Williams in the 2nd quarter was the greatest playoff quarter I've ever seen an athlete, yet alone football player, I've ever seen live.

(Come to think of it, the MJ shrug was pretty amazing, but that was an entire half.)

I'm seeing 127.5 seconds with the over at -145, and under at +105.

The Pats score 17 in Super Bowls they lose! Wait a minute.

Also, Alex Mack is going to play on his broken leg.

In other news, every time I see his name, I think of this:

Why Pats Fans Excuse Cheating

Actually a fascinating article. Uses Pats fans as a jumping off point for universal behaviours.
