Some of you may disagree but someone who owns an MLB and NHL franchise dying deserves their own thread.
Though even if he never bought the Red Wings and Tigers he would still be a hero to most Detroiters. The obit barely touches on the fact that when the city was dying in the 1980s he was one of the only people spending money bringing jobs to Detroit. And he did it without thanks and without holding the city hostage. It was just the right thing to do. Now if you go to downtown Detroit his legacy is everywhere. Go to a bar owned by Olympia Entertainment, see a show at the Fox, catch a Tigers or a Red Wings game. He was humble, he was smart and he loved Detroit. I only wish he had gotten to see the Tigers win a World Series under his ownership. But his legacy will last long well after I'm gone and that will have to be enough.
Rest in peace, Mr. I.

While not Rosa Parks I have to think lots of youth athletes have to thank Mike Ilitch. He was huge in the youth hockey league (I know that and have no real connection to youth hockey)
