2017 NBA Draft
Ball is a consensus top 3 pick. Is dealing with his dad worth it?

Wish I knew but since Celtics are gonna have first pick (it's due and guaranteed) I say yes. Hes going to make Isaiah Thomas into the 6th man finals MVP he was born to be.wlu_lax6 wrote:Ball is a consensus top 3 pick. Is dealing with his dad worth it?

I don't follow basketball as closely as I should for a sports fan. But in the mediums I do follow sports, this fucking helicopter hype man parent is everywhere. I can't stand him and I hope his family fails as hard as possible.
He's basically the male version of Kris Kardashian with his trio of children he's using to get paid. Granted, at least three kids have actual talent, by my god is this family equally as insufferable.

Awhile back dad said it was Lakers or bust for Lonzo Ball. Is that still his stance? If so, this will get interesting.

Right Remember Kobe was not going to suit up for the Hornets when they drafted him and Steve Francis created a fiasco with the Grizzlies (he did not want to play for the Grizzlies, citing the distance from his Maryland home, taxes, endorsements, and God's will.)sancarlos wrote:Awhile back dad said it was Lakers or bust for Lonzo Ball. Re: 2017 NBA Draft
Jeez. The ungrateful amateur athletes who don't want to play by the rules. First, in college. Then, in the draft. Who do they think they are, a member of every other skilled profession in the USA, who are allowed to freely negotiate the terms of their employment?

It's really not that hard to not take Lavar Ball seriously

Re: 2017 NBA Draft
He seems like a classic "elite sports parent" buffoon. I have sadly experienced so many of them, in both my own generation and my daughter's.
Absent some details about how this father turned his sons into great players. Apart from choosing a female basketball player to be their mother (and perhaps she chose him), it escapes me how he's done something worthy of any note. And despite the BBBaller marketing, it's far from clear that the next two sons are even good college players.
I am curious where the money comes from for the nice house and luxury cars.

I'm surprised Big Baller Brand's website doesn't look like a No Limit Records album cover circa early 2000's. That's a lame ass company name.

I miss the heady Internet days when you could find things like the Stuntaz.
BTW, as DC mentioned, the next to Balls are not nearly as highly rated as Lonzo. LiAngelo is the 6th best recruit in UCLA's class next year - a marginal 3-star prospect who clearly wouldn't have gotten a UCLA offer if not for his older brother. The youngest, LaMelo, is a top-100 recruit, but barely, not close to a one-and-done type talent yet.

He's very good at marketing his kids. But frankly, it's only working because his oldest kid is a superstar.mister d wrote:Seems like this would go in the "pros" column for the dad's methods.Shirley wrote:LiAngelo is the 6th best recruit in UCLA's class next year - a marginal 3-star prospect who clearly wouldn't have gotten a UCLA offer if not for his older brother.

Re: 2017 NBA Draft
I would draft Ball in a second if I had a lottery pick, but maybe hold off on saying your son is better than Steph Curry and Russell Westbrook until he can avoid getting worked by DeAaron Fox?
Re: 2017 NBA Draft
You see Lavar and Stephen A trying to out-troll each other? It was the nadir of sports television.

Re: 2017 NBA Draft
I did not. Souds delightful. Setting up Lonzo as a villain seems unwise, considering that he'll go to a bad team and will likely have some natural growing pains.Johnnie wrote:You see Lavar and Stephen A trying to out-troll each other? It was the nadir of sports television.

Why is Michael rappaport still the white guy in black entertainment. Been riding that for 20 years now. Someone please go to Detroit and find a new actor.
Re: 2017 NBA Draft
Yeah he's not from Detroit. Don't pin that shit on us. And even if he were I'd be less embarrassed of Insane Clown Posse than him. He sucks.HaulCitgo wrote:Why is Michael rappaport still the white guy in black entertainment. Been riding that for 20 years now. Someone please go to Detroit and find a new actor.

Ball will be on lakers. Even if it's a Eli manning power move.

Woooooow."Just imagine how rich Tiger [Woods], Kobe [Bryant], Serena [Williams], [Michael] Jordan and LeBron [James] would have been if they dared to do their own thing," LaVar said. "No one owned their own brand before they turned pro. We do, and I have three sons, so it's that much more valuable."
They are not throwing money at this clown because his logic is warped. He's asking for a handout.
Well, fuck. What do you want to do here? You own your own name and brand. Why do you need co-branding if you've dared to do your own thing already?"We've said from the beginning, we aren't looking for an endorsement deal," LaVar told ESPN. "We're looking for co-branding, a true partner. But they're not ready for that because they're not used to that model. But hey, the taxi industry wasn't ready for Uber, either."
Those big three see through the bullshit. Hopefully all the rest do too. Lonzo should be pissed. His dad is costing him money.

Re: 2017 NBA Draft
Of those 5, I'd guess that Serena Williams is the least wealthy and I just checked and saw estimates of her net worth from $75-$160 million."Just imagine how rich Tiger [Woods], Kobe [Bryant], Serena [Williams], [Michael] Jordan and LeBron [James] would have been if they dared to do their own thing," LaVar said.
Dude may have succeeded in getting his sons known more than they would have otherwise been, but he is now costing Lonzo a fortune.

Atleast Dwight Howard played half a season's worth of games before he decided to start his "very cute and funny 7'0 child" act.
