I don't have a pic of it handy, but the Timbers' Bob Ross-inspired tifo was amazing.

pretty sure that my back yard that I'm currently rehabbing because of soil compaction and ownership of two dogs is higher quality than the turf at RFK for United-SKC last night

Re: MLS 2017
RFK usually has a really nice playing surface...in contrast to the rest of the place. However, the DC events folks have put on a bad bowl game, high school football, Latin American Friendlies, concerts, and some fun run events over the last few months. Also can't see United spending a whole bunch of money on the field this year.Brontoburglar wrote:pretty sure that my back yard that I'm currently rehabbing because of soil compaction and ownership of two dogs is higher quality than the turf at RFK for United-SKC last night

Will be interesting to see what the WNT team thinks of it this week.

hand-tilled bare patches and have aerated everything else this spring. I need to take before/afters.
(I also did not rent an aerator and instead got the spike things you strap on your shoes. they work surprisingly well if you don't mind looking like a weirdo just walking across the yard)

Schweinsteiger to Chicago Fire
and RSL cans their coach. I know this his the week to do it as it is international break, but 3 weeks. That is a short window. I figured Benny Olsen would be the first to go...on the other hand Management at DC knows they have have never given him enough talent and he has done really well with it.

Cassar has been on the edge of being fired for a couple of years. They had a good first 2/3 of the season last year, then finished with an 8-game winless streak. So it isn't surprising that he's gone.wlu_lax6 wrote:Schweinsteiger to Chicago Fire

There is an announcement scheduled for this afternoon, featuring the owner, GM, and "Capital Kyle Beckerman" and club dignitaries and personalities. There were some rumors flying around that Beckerman would be named player-coach - he's the same age Kreis was - but more likely it is to announce a Man U game this summer.
In other news, Man U is apparently playing a game here in Salt Lake City this summer.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Sadly, I don't know enough to know. I know I would rather try to win games 3-2 than 1-0. It was such a treat watching the team's fluidity with the ball in that 2010-14 period, I want that again.wlu_lax6 wrote:Who do you want as the coach? Re: MLS 2017
So they made the announcement - I happened to be there because the RSL Team Store is just a couple blocks from my office, and I needed to pick up a present for my daughter's birthday tomorrow.
Before the announcement, Kyle Beckerman was off to the side - he agreed to record a quick "Happy Birthday" to my daughter. He was very cool about it.
She will love that - except that once I got back to the office, I find he said "Hannah" instead of "Anna". Fuck.

So at the Schweinsteiger presser a reporter asked if he was going to help the Fire win the World Cup.wlu_lax6 wrote:Schweinsteiger to Chicago Fire

Also Petke moves up from their USL team to take over RSL.

I guess it's a plus that for the first time in history, RSL has hired a coach with professional experience.

34 w, 23 d, 25 l in just shy of 2 years with Red Bulls and perfect record with Real Monarchs (1-0-0). His first season with Red Bulls did get them a supporters shield.

Whitecaps trade Kekuta Manneh to Columbus for Tony Tchani + allocation money. One less goalscorer on a Vancouver team that's pretty thin in that dept.

Cheers to Saint Louisians to rejecting public money for an MLS project. Surely the mega-rich guys behind that deal can pony up an additional $60M if they really want a stadium/team. Good job on calling their bluff.
(And it helps Detroit's chances for one of the three remaining expansion teams immensely as long as the Wayne County government approves Gilbert/Gores' plan for the failjail site.)

Re: MLS 2017
As a resident of the City of St. Louis, I am glad that proposition failed. Getting an MLS team is pretty far down the list of good uses of $60M for the city. Plus the Post-Dispatch slideshow of sad scarf wearing supporters (most of whom don't even live in the city and wouldn't pay any taxes towards the stadium) was pretty excellent.brian wrote:Cheers to Saint Louisians to rejecting public money for an MLS project. I guess the opposite feeling of above, I'm seeing on twitter that Matarrita was taken off the practice field w/ an air cast on his ankle. That would be (probably is, because air casts don't seem to ever end up precautionary) a completely season fucking loss.

Adding the 2017 US Open Cup to this thread
Christos FC upset the Richmond Kickers 1-0 in Richmond. Christos is an amateur team from Baltimore. Goal was scored by Geaton Calatabiano who played at UMBC. The group practices from time to time but usually gets together for weekend matches. Their headquaters and hall of fame is in a liquor store.

Other upsets saw PDL team from Reading scored 3 goals in 6 minutes to beat the New York Cosmos
A PDF Team from Chicago beat the Pittsburgh Riverhounds 3-1
Another PDL team, the Michigan Bucks who have had good runs in the US Open Cup before upset the Indy Eleven
Also LA Wolves (coached by Wynalda) moved on.
