I don't know. One of the first podcasts I listened to when I was trying the whole thing out (finally had a car that could play my iPhone), was the WTF with Rappaport. I thought he was pretty funny.

Speaking of Simmons, I just listened to his one from February with Malcolm Gladwell. I found it somewhat surprising that they seemed like such good friends. Gladwell seems to really like Simmons. It's not that he shouldn't, it's just that I wouldn't have guessed it.

You guys missed out on the continued beef between Rapaport and LeBatard. He called him a "fat fuck" and "mother fucker" over and over to the point that Bill felt awkward and Rapaport was like "No, you're leaving this in. You're not deleting it." Good stuff.

Not a Rappaport fan, but I would listen to him on repeat for eternity before listening to Simmons. Still can't fathom how that guy has a career. Simmons should have Matthew Berry on an episode, so someone can firebomb the studio.

Listened to Simmons with the South Park guys this morning. Very interesting on how they view politics, how the show is constructed, and how the show has changed over the 20 years (!) that it's been on.

And welcome back, btw!

(Man, I keep feeling like we need to do another Swampcast. Is Skype + Callburner + editing with Audacity still the easiest way to go about it? That's what I did 5+ years ago.)

I've started listening to the Dollop a bunch, catching up on old episodes. Its a history/comedy podcast, where the one host (Dave Anthony) reads a history story to the other host (Gareth Reynolds) who has no idea what the story will be. Recent ones have included Disco Demolition night and 10 cent beer night.

I really enjoyed the first season of Malcolm Gladwell's podcast "Revisionist History."

The first episode of season 2 just arrived and it was so irritating that I stopped listening 2/3rds of the way through.

It's interesting, but hardly surprising that when I am annoyed by his central thesis - golf is bad - I find that his stats are misleading, and that he seemingly intentionally conflates coincidence and causation.

Just listened to Simmons newest podcast today and it features Gladwell. He touches briefly on the return of his podcast and the topic.

As a dude who hates golf because of the reasons he gave along with the type of people who engage in said sport (sorry not sorry golf fans of the Swamp), I'm ready to listen.

Golf is the most preposterous activity I've ever witnessed. And I've been to Magic: The Gathering tournaments to watch.

This is my experience with Gladwell on a number of topics. I think he routinely plays fast and loose with evidence and data. I might not catch that if his central point is one I'm inclined to agree with. But I've noticed some pretty glaring weaknesses when I come in with a more skeptical mindset. I'll never forget how he pitched Vivek as a basketball genius because he was having a team of 13 year old girls run a full court press. Gladwell then claimed that underdogs should press more at all levels of the sport, which is actually a terrible idea. Underdogs in basketball should generally try to limit the number of possessions, and pressing does the exact opposite. An NBA team that tried to press the Warriors might give up 200 points in a game.

The meat of the episode is in the last 15 minutes. "Golf is bad" is absolutely not what this episode was about as PDX states.

The only questionable thing about this podcast was the correlation of CEOs that golf all the time seem to be in charge of businesses that could be doing better. He framed it improperly. It's more accurate to say bad CEOs would rather play golf.

And i love that the girl at the end was like "When you fly over Los Angeles the only green you see are golf courses and cemeteries."

Funny. I wonder who mentioned that in a stand up once...

Eh, at lower levels of basketball - like 13-year-old girls - a full court press can be devastating even against more skilled opponents. That advantage lessens as you move up the skill ladder. You can get away with it some in college, but not so much in the NBA.

However, the latest episode is the one of the best things you'll ever hear and what the show really should be about. Cracking internet mysteries.

Yeah, it's been a bit boring lately. Good to know it's back.

And I just listened to another of Malcolm Gladwell's "Revisionist History" podcasts - "The Footsoldiers of Birmingham." It was 35 minutes based on nothing more significant than the fact that an artist took artistic license when making a sculpture based on an incident during the civil rights battles in the 60s.

Kind of interesting, but his tone was as if he had revealed the secrets of the universe. Loved this show last season, but am getting irritated by it this year.

And Gilbert Gottfried's podcast with Bobcat Goldthwait was very entertaining.

It's good. My boss loves them, and my first time out to our HQ, I drove into the warehouse district of Oakland to go to their main location as a time kill adventure on the way to the airport. Cool place (you can see the picture of it on the website you linked). Totally not worth it, but the area was a cool hipster West Coast Brooklyn. Curious to see how much the neighborhood has changed over 3 years.
