The worst is when they don't properly screen the mic, so now you've got some person babbling incomprehensibly because rain drops are literally washing out whatever they are saying.
The "reporter getting blown around by the wind" is so stupid. You're not actually providing any useful information. We would all learn the same thing by just putting a scarecrow out there.
You can lead a horse to fish, but you can't fish out a horse.
CNN has a dude in Punta Gorda. Showing the waters receding prior to the storm surge coming later today. Pretty freaky to see what is obviously the bottom of the harbor without any water.
5-8 foot surge expected there.

That's where my buddy's condo is. They're not expecting good news when they head back.
Probably booked far in advanced. My mom has a friend who to Florida to see some friends hoping to go to Miami and the Keys. Now they're just hunkered down getting bored of each other.
Kung Fu movies are like porn. There's 1 on 1, then 2 on 1, then a group scene..

I am aware of how travel arrangements work, and I am also aware that things can be canceled and rescheduled.

Seems like Oiler and I have made it through pretty well, down here in Jupiter. Forecast says one more squall until about one or two am, and then just wind. Then, the wait begins to see how family friends, and home has fared.

Some friends from here scheduled a trip to Disney months ago; went, and are still there (hopefully ok.) Evidently, couldn't get transport out, so hunkered down with booze.
I'd have said fuck it at the first inclination that the hurricane was going to hang a right.

Buddy is getting married this weekend and he canceled his honeymoon to Puerto Rico last week.

We got really lucky. Our way home took us through almost no areas with power. It's spotty throughout Tampa, as far as I can tell. It looks like we have one old palm frond down, and that we didn't lose power.

House is ok, some water got in but not too much and I swept all the debris out yesterday. My general swath going north/south took what appears to be the worst of it - it seems like the majority of trees are down, and a bunch of them are just resting on power lines. Probably going to be a week or two before power is back so I'm refugee-ing in Ft Lauderdale. 1,000 ft to the west of my apt. seems to be just fine.

So, what constitutes a house being declared uninhabitable? I've always been mildly curious (but not so much to go hunting the info down).
Is it a certain height of flooding or standing water? Is it the amount of time the water sits in the house? Something to do with the foundation or load bearing walls?
I get if the thing is flattened (duh), I'm really talking about primarily flooded homes.
