Swamp Fantasy Hockey 2017-2018

Post by sancarlos »

So, I've re-upped the Swamp Fantasy Hockey League and it automatically registered all the teams from last year.

If you did it last year and don't want to do it this year, please let me know. If you know anybody else who'd like to join the league, please let me know and I'll send them an invitation. (Degenerasian? Mr. D? Bapo!? Rush? Others?)

We need to set a draft date. If you have any particular thoughts, please let me know. - Bad dates or times we should consider? We have done an auction draft the last few years. Should we continue that way or would guys prefer a standard snake draft?

I'd prefer a snake draft, honestly. But that's just because I don't know anything.

I'd be interested in participating. I prefer the snake draft for the same reason as Giff

That's great wlu. It's head-to-head so we just have to have an even number of teams.

I'd be in. What about a slow, on-the-board draft that can start any time? That might be more fun than me having to block off time some night.

That would be good. I also think there are some free services that support this via email. I was looking to see if this was option for the Premiership FF league, but ran out of time.

Some thoughts:

A) wlu_lax and rush have joined us in the league!
B) mister d - I need an email address for you to send an invitation (did you see the pm?). I think you can also register at this link:
https://hockey.fantasysports.yahoo.com/ ... ed11d12cc2
C) Does anybody else want to join? If mister d joins, then we have an odd number of teams (assuming everybody re-ups from last year.)
D) It sounds like most people are pining for a snake draft instead of an auction, so i'll set it up that way for this year. (Sorry turd).
E) Remember how long it took to draft various all-time teams in the Swamp? I'm guessing we wouldn't finish the draft in time that way. Besides, we have a few teams whose managers rarely ever visit the Swamp anymore. So, I think we need to draft at the league site on a specific date.
F) Would you guys rather draft on a weekday or a weekend? Give me some preferred time-of-day parameters, too.

I'd prefer later in the evening on weekdays or midafternoon weekends.

Late evening on weekdays is perfect for me, say 8 pm EDT or later. I can probably make almost anything work though.

When I'm out on the street, strung out on auction drafts that I found in a stairwell, at least give me a hug. I'll probably refuse it and get it for $2 at the end of the night but it'll be appreciated

OK, guys. We are set at 14 teams! (Returnees: Chedda, Giff, Ryan, Diamond, Jpops, Oiler, Buffalo Soldier, my friend Spinner (who's only posted a few times), my friend Patrick, and me. New guys: Wlu_lax, Rush, Mister D and BSF.)

I'd like to set the draft date/time for next Tuesday, Sept 25 @ 8:00 pm EST (7:00 CST, 6:00 MST, 5:00 PST). If that is a problem for folks, I can change it.

For the newbies, a quick review of how it works: Each week you play head-to-head against an opponent. At the end of a week you get a win point for your teams cumulatively winning a category against your opponent, and a loss for the opposite. Categories are: Goals, Assists, Power-play points, Plus/Minus, Penalty minutes, Shots on goal, Face-offs won, Hits, Blocked Shots, Goalie wins, Goals Against Average, and Save percentage. More detail under Settings on the league site. Playoffs in the last couple weeks of the regular season. Draft works much like fantasy football.

ETA: THURSDAY, SEPT 21 IS THE NEW DRAFT DATE!

Can you draft from a phone? Not to rockt he boat, but Tuesday nights are the worst for me, but if I can manage from my phone I might be able to make it work.

There's nothing needing it to be Tuesday. Monday is bad for Chedda, Wednesday is bad for Rush. Since Tuesday is bad for you, Let's now change it to Thursday, Sept 27, if that is ok with people.

ETA: Suggestion to newbies - Set your lineup at the beginning of each week so that each night you have players with off nights on the bench and not the guys who are playing.

Time was you could show up late to a Swamp hockey draft and only miss the "opportunity" to draft Steven Stamkos for $97

Yeah, having Ryan take the guy you wanted for $2 you couldn't afford didn't happen until the latter part of the draft. I'm going to miss that.

If you are going to be a bit late, make sure your rank your top picks on the draft part of the site, so that when it autodrafts for you it actually picks the guy you want.

Gotta love Yahoo's draft logic.

McDavid first. Fantastic. Wait until the bottom of the second. Matt Murray. Eh, ok. Top of the third? Let's go goaltender again!

Good times. Had to settle for Ryan just taking the guys I wanted in front of me. Not the same.
