That Villaneuva does ads for the Army, doesn't he?
Maybe his rate just went up?

No, USAA. It's an insurance/banking company for military members and their families.

Interesting. I appreciate his perspective, especially in light of the way he's being hailed as a MAGA Messiah.
But, he does have to clear up some things. Now that he's inadvertently created a distraction (benefit of the doubt) and was the one out of 53 to not be with his team despite a full throated pre game insistence by his coach that the team wouldn't be on the field, what the full purpose was.
"For the men I served with" is nice, but he should now realize he's being hailed as a guy defying his black head coach to proudly salute the flag. It's naive to think otherwise.

This is basically what I was worried about when I posted yesterday (not Johnnie's response, but the MAGA Nation making him a deity for telling his black coach and teammates to fuck off and going out there for the anthem anyway).

Sometimes, I wish Shannon Sharpe was on a different network.

This gets some at my thoughts on the owners.

Man, that is an A+ rant from Sharpe. I thought this was a really astute point about the whole theme of unity from the weekend:
I just wanna know, what are you unifying against? Are you showing unity, are you showing solidarity against racism, or the injustice that's in this country? Or are you showing solidarity against President Trump, and what he said? His attack on the very NFL, the Shield. Because what we know, above all else, those 32 men and the Commissioner will protect the Shield at all costs.

This and his undressing of Ray Lewis a couple weeks ago make me wish he wasn't on that fucking clown show that delegitimizes him a little bit.

Re: NFL 2017 Week 3 f/ Rams-Niners
Yup.
“People that are taking a knee are not saying anything negative about the military, they’re not saying anything negative about the flag, they’re just trying to protest that there are some injustices in America,” Villanueva said.
But then...
When asked about if he thought President Trump should apologize for calling NFL players names or drawing the players into this, he said: “I don’t have anything to say about the commander in chief and his decisions, I stick to football, I have nothing to comment about what the president says,” Villanueva said.
Even Tom Brady said it was divisive. Go that extra step, man.

New spin today from the idiots that canonized Villanueva:
"That poor patriot was forced to apologize."
I love when a subset of people can simultaneously make him out as a messiah and a pariah at the same time. As if screwing up in the moment and apologizing afterward can't be legitimate. He defied his black coach and now he's the victim from the big, bad lib'rul agenda. It's just another way military members are looked at as these perfect brings by society.
These people are fucking retarded.

Something tells me that Villanueva could've been one of those Nat'l Guardsmen from Ohio. He doesn't seem to think well on his feet. Or he's trying to find some arbitrary middle ground where one never needed to have been staked. Just sit with your teammates. I mean, are we seriously going to believe he has a binary choice here, where one choice breaks his will to move forward as an upstanding citizen? Is *that* what he learned in the military?

Sometimes people apologize when they did something they really didn't mean to do. It's crazy but it happens.

I was just kind of thinking....why the fuck weren't people buying Villanueva's jersey when he only did three tours in Afghanistan? Was he not truly "heroic" until he did an action that was obviously going to be widely praised and applauded?
Does the PC crowd really truly fail to realize that "disrespecting the Anthem" is the actual difficult action in this situation?

It's almost as if this really is about race and not patriotism, national symbols or respect for the military. Because if everyone upset about the protests really we're all about The Troops™, then as you pointed out, Villanueva would already have a best selling jersey. And the Cowboys/Cardinals display, which occurred prior to the anthem, wouldn't have been booed.
Re: NFL 2017 Week 3 f/ Rams-Niners
Also, if all of these sofa/keyboard warriors are all about THE TROOPS, why didn't they enlist themselves? Your support for the military only means so much when you don't have the balls to put yourself on the line and then support politicians who continually cut services for veterans. I wish these fuckers were 1/10th as pissed off about Republicans vetoing and blocking bills that would provide better mental health and medical funding for veterans. Guess their flags are in the washing machine when that shit comes up.

Also, those taxes you want cut don't just come out of the public school systems you hate - about 16% of it goes to the military.

I love chatting with randoms that seem to like to use the military to justify their worldview and then, when I don't agree, seeing that momentary glitch in their matrix when they can't speak all of a sudden. The conversation ends sheepishly with "Well, I just don't agree with [topic]." A telltale sign that cognitive dissonance is real.

I remember back when America was great and good, kind people would spit on Vietnam veterans when they returned to the US and burn flags in the outfield. Now we've got these no good thugs. It sickens me, man. What has the world come to?
