Not unreasonable to think that was some kind of karmic kick-back for giving the world DTJ. That was some serious juju last night.

I'd think the population that cared last night (versus would have eventually cared next summer) would skew to the non-Trump side but, overall point, totally. Mexico would have been completely justified shooting into their own goal all night.

What on earth does this mean?

Who is "we?" And why is this an award?

Government money? What is this idiot talking about?

No, I was referring to the phrasing of "we are awarding" money to Las Vegas.

Is he using the royal "we?"

I think he means the US government, but yeah it was phrased poorly. Maybe another reason why a senile old man shouldn't be disseminating information via Twitter.

"We" as in "the government" should not be "awarding" money for a tragedy. Yeah it's semantics but it speaks to Trump's need to act as the kingly benefactor.

Point taken.

But the word "awarding" is so, so bizarre.

And secondly, I have not failed any indigenous women. The three that I've had as students all passed.

interesting article on the Post this morning about teams spurning Trump Hotels

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics ... 6b91304777

2014-15
Mavericks, Pacers
2015-16
Bucks, Thunder, Warriors, Grizzlies, Lightning
2016-17
Cavaliers, Rockets, Suns, Kings, Raptors, Wizards, Hurricanes, Caps
Dodgers

Wapo wrote:“The president has seemingly made a point of dividing us as best he can,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr told The Post in an interview this week, explaining the shift. His team quit using Trump SoHo in 2016. “He continually offends people, and so people don’t want to stay at his hotel. It’s pretty simple.”

I saw video of the interview past that 35 second clip. The national anthem doesn't play for whatever reason. It's played everywhere I've even been. The bugle you hear is a preparatory thing. Once the anthem plays then you salute or put your hand over your heart.

Regardless, stand up, face the music, and remain silent until it's done. Him and everyone else in the crowd didn't do that. Except for those you see in the background actually paying reverence.

Admittedly I have no reason to have been trained in Military protocol (nor to have been briefed that it was almost 5), but I'd have had no idea to stand for that.

You'd hope the Commander-In-Chief might though. I'm not going to kill him for it too much, but if nothing else it shows that as much as he humps the military and the flag and the troops he's obviously not spent very much time in the last 9 months at any military bases.

Yeah, that was why i popped the part about being briefed in there. SOmeone should have clued him in, because if he HAD stopped talking and stood, you can bet that shit would have been all over everything touting it.

Rarely read George Will, but I found this column to be spectacular.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/sinister-figures-lurk-around-our-careless-president/2017/10/13/09c9448c-af6e-11e7-be94-fabb0f1e9ffb_story.html?hpid=hp_no-name_opinion-card-d%3Ahomepage%2Fstory&utm_term=.f1bb4a08c36e

With eyes wide open, Mike Pence eagerly auditioned for the role as Donald Trump’s poodle. Now comfortably leashed, he deserves the degradations that he seems too sycophantic to recognize as such. He did Trump’s adolescent bidding with last Sunday’s preplanned virtue pageant of scripted indignation — his flight from the predictable sight of players kneeling during the national anthem at a football game. No unblinkered observer can still cling to the hope that Pence has the inclination, never mind the capacity, to restrain, never mind educate, the man who elevated him to his current glory. Pence is a reminder that no one can have sustained transactions with Trump without becoming too soiled for subsequent scrubbing.

Strange that someone's offering money to take down the president? Or strange that it's Larry Flynt? Because the latter certainly isn't strange at all.

I have to admit, I'm still surprised at the way he manages to trip on his own dick, unforced, and fall into shit like how Obama and other previous POTUS's handled the families of fallen soldiers, and then lies about what he said and has others lie about what he said and then still manages to make it worse a day later (drawing Kelly into it).

Yeah, that was infuriating. That's a story if Trump said "Obama didn't call every family" and then somehow people were like "yes, Obama did call every family" and THEN if it were Kelly who said it and not just a source. I mean fucking christ.

The man is a pathological liar and a narcissist who can't admit he doesn't know something, so he spouts of bullshit off, and when called on it, says, "that's what I've been told," or "many people are saying this." In his mind, he isn't lying, and if it is wrong, it's somebody else's fault. He doesn't hold himself accountable for anything, and he isn't going to start holding himself accountable for fact checking. He has made a career out of lying, self aggrandizement, fraud and cheating, and he has never had consequences. That isn't going to change.

Period. End of story.

Months ago I just realized I'd think less of the people I know who voted for him. Like, I will use it against them to settle arguments going forward.

Like most of us hereabouts, I have relatives and friends who voted for Trump. It is so hard not to jump into a scathing Trump diatribe when I'm with them. My parents were just visiting for a week and it was hard to keep that subject off the table (for the sake of getting along). At one point my father started to bring up Trump in conversation, and I sort of cut him off with, "I hate Trump", and he gave the old "I don't like him either but...

The BUT issue got discussed upthread, but I really hate the way that gets used by people to casually slough off his various outrageous behaviors.

I'm having a hard time with this, too. Until now, I never fully judged anyone based on who they voted for, but if I se a Trump sticker on someone's car, I assume a hell of a lot about them. The guy who runs our town Boy Scout program is constantly posting pro-Trump shit on Facebook, well, more like bashing sheep for hating on Trump and buying the fake news. I used to like and respect the guy, and when I see him, my skin crawls. Fortunately, my son quit Scouts 2 years ago, so I don't need to deal with this guy. It's odd to me, as he is mostly into the Nationalistic shit, as he is an immigrant from Colombia. He could definitely be mistaken for Mexican. He immigrated post-college, so I don't know if he is even naturalized. A few weeks ago, I was talking to a couple fathers at the end of a soccer practice, and one guy started with a very defensive, "I hate Trump as much as everybody, but..." and he gave a legitimate argument against one criticism about Trump that the media and Left blew out of proportion. Another father cut him off saying, "what do you mean hate Trump? I think he is as bad as other politicians, but he is a brilliant businessman and actually cares about the People." It's sad, but my opinion of the second guy has completely changed. I try to block it out, but I can't. Also didn't help that he recommended some conspiracy wackjob documentary on Netflix. 2 minutes Googling showed the filmmaker had a very long history of pushing verifiably debunked garbage of the nuttiest kind, mostly about the government hiding aliens. Also saw links to interviews with the witnesses and experts saying their statements were completely misrepresented. Oh, well.
