2017 World Series: From the NL West Vault
I know all of you are still a little down in the dumps after the Yankees were eliminated, but it's time to turn the page. I think the Astros can do this, in fact I will pick them to win in 5.
Re: 2017 World Series: From the NL West Vault
I can't think of many completely avoidable idiotic decisions than scheduling a clincher for a 5:00 Halloween start on the west coast.

they have no choice these days, World Series for the longest time was S-S/T-W-R/S-S
now football is killing them sunday and thursday nights so they must go T-W/F-S-S/T-W
I think a handful of games have been played on Halloween, no clinchers yet.

Skip Sunday, play game 5 Monday, skip Halloween, hope for a game 7 and smush the Jets/Bills game.

Prior to a series starting, what are the mathematical likelihoods of the series going each potential length?

Betting markets do this for every series, but their odds are "inefficient" since they don't add up to 100 percent (so they can get their cut). Kinda hoped WhoWins might have something like that (and maybe they do), but I couldn't find it.

I just went ahead and did it myself with the data there. So historically in the history of all four major sports it looks like this.
Series ended after:
4 games - 215 of 1319 (16.30 percent)
5 games - 341 of 1319 (25.85 percent)
6 games - 418 of 1319 (31.69 percent)
7 games - 345 of 1319 (26.16 percent)

5 games - 341 of 1319 (25.85 percent)
6 games - 418 of 1319 (31.69 percent)

So, third straight year that the World Series is guaranteed to end one team's 29+ year drought?
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Buddy, either don't give me the setup or ask your team to win enough titles to cross over the "LOL dead person" threshold.

I’ve asked. They don’t listen.

Dammit AB.
Kershaw may have this on lock. 5 Ks through three and one seeing eye single. Was wondering if he had a perfect game looming with the way his stuff is looking.

Altho 9 Ks through five innings is pretty good.

Bregman forecasts as a really good player who "whites of a certain type" are going to like a bit too much.

Hour and ten minutes! Love it!

Re: 2017 World Series: From the NL West Vault
I'm curious how long the starters stay in this game if they keep cruising like this. I'm thinking Hinch lets Keuchel throw 100+ pitches but the Dodgers' pen has been so untouchable that Kershaw may be out sooner.
Re: 2017 World Series: From the NL West Vault
The ghost of Larry King hovering over every batter close-up is what makes this game.

The yeti with another huge homerun.
Re: 2017 World Series: From the NL West Vault
Probably in the minority here, but I'd take Kershaw out now. Morrow and Jansen have been awesome and with Kershaw under 85 pitches you could potentially bring him back in Game 4 if Houston wins Games 2 and 3.

Two (mainly) bad pitches by Keuchel. Still optimistic with Verlander on the mound tonight.

1979 JR Richard. Unreal year. Richard from 1976-1979 was unreal.

Other than Koufax coming out (and i bet his arm is as shot as Scully's) the only thing that would have been better would have been Lasorda coming out to take the ball from him.
