this is great. thanks for putting into words what I've been struggling to

Men need to, for the most part, open their minds and keep their mouths shut right now. This isn't about us and how it effects us. Be supportive where you need to be, but asking how to react to all this because you feel uncomfortable... Or framing it in a "not all men" fashion is really just not important right now. Women know that not every male they encounter wants to rape them.
But how many speak out when their buddy talks about his girlfriend/wife in a demeaning way? How many of us knew guys who described a sexual encounter that in hindsight we know was at a minimum inappropriate but likely bordering on illegal?
I could go on and on.
I'll use a race as an example. You know the guys that say "blacks" should just shut up about racial discrimination. "I didn't own slaves, and neither did anyone in my family. They are just whining, there's no inequality. I'm not racist and I'm tired of hearing about it and all the excuses."
Yeah, and that ignorance is almost always followed with some REALLY racist shit. But the person saying it truly doesn't think it's racist, because they've already couched in the "not all white people" manner. They are blinded to it.
Just keep it in mind as you are struggling with the desire/need to defend your maleness in the current climate.

Agreed.
This is where I struggle, is the article stating 'all men' or my discomfort with it "not all men". Maybe I'm easily triggered.

As a general rule, guys need to sack the fuck up and deal with the fact that a much larger % of men then we realize/know are the problem. Also, given how long the people who haven't directly done anything wrong, but known about and stayed silent, are part of the problem. I am including myself in all of this.
Hell, there's a couple of guys in the Swamp who in my opinion have pretty disturbing and retrograde opinions about women (and that's putting it nicer than I could).
This will come as a shock to exactly no one, but Louie Gohmert is batshit crazy. (By the way, this is one of the few times where it's worth it to read the mentions/comments on the tweet. Some good stuff in there.

I would also say that we have been talking about the warp speed with which sexual abuse/assault has turned into a thing that's... I guess, not OK all of a sudden?
I mean, it's fucking weird that we are saying that, but it really has become a cultural phenomenon and massive and very rapid shift in how we are covering and talking about it.
Stuff that was "known" in all sorts of places and, for whatever weird fucking reason, was just normalized or ignored... All of a sudden we aren't OK with it. Which is fantastic... but very weird, too.
I almost didn't read that when I saw the author. For some reason, I get regular Medium emails highlighting interesting articles. Her stuff comes up a lot in those emails and I quickly learned to stop reading them. But that one was a good piece. I don't think she's wrong. She's probably way overly optimistic about how far and fast this revolution will move, but it'll be interesting to see.
You know, for a country that spends a lot of effort and trillions of dollars "Exporting Democracy," the USA doesn't really make it look all that appealing.

There’s an election to be won for an isolationist president who isn’t a bigot and an idiot.
The only argument to be made for American intervention overseas is a sense of morality to defend Western norms but at this point I’d be fine if some brave president said fuck it and closed all our bases overseas. (Except maybe a few in Western Europe.)

Didn't Trump say that at one point? "Why doesnt Japan have its own guns?" Or he wanted mafia protection money from NATO members.
Instead the Congress 100% raised defense spending.

There’s so much there! He’s quite proud of the scheduling of his college football team; he served as a Chaplin (sic) (Charlie or Geraldine?) of an organization, and was Associate Evangelist with Evangelism International. (!). He noted many plaintiffs he represented including “the unborn”. (Do they have legal standing to file lawsuits?)

Again, apologies to any Alabamans, but if this is the lawyer that a former Justice of the State Supreme Court chooses to act as his spokesman, it kind of plays in to many stereotypes that people have of the state.
From an article in the Gadsen Times concerning the fact that Garmon's church kicked out a Boy Scout troop after the national organization decided to allow openly gay Scouts...
“We would not want the Boy Scouts to have a bad witness of Christ,” Garmon said. “Because we (the church) are reflections of Christ.”
Wow.

And I would add, that contrary to most instances, the comment section is a pretty interesting read. Lots of pretty well-articulated responses and points of view.
Just gonna keep reading.
You can lead a horse to fish, but you can't fish out a horse.
Sounds like some white people I've met who've never met a non white person in their lives and has to craft a worldview out of the worst stereotypes they've heard on tv.
Usually these types don't become lawyers though.

But even his intonation, and his interview with Don Lemon the other day.
Sure he's a goober, but there's something else there too.

So he was disbarred for 90days several years ago for pretending to be a minister to some parents who just buried their kid. Moore actually upheld his suspension while on the Alabama SC. Is this really the best representation that Moore can get? A shitty ambulance chaser?

It's nuts.
He's a Senator - can't he at least find an attorney who doesn't cut his own hair?

I don't know if "shame" and "AL voter" can really go in the same sentence.
I may not have worded it right, but I think there's a technique involved here where his handlers are effectively propping this guy up as a mirror to the state of Alabama.
