I know, I know.

As awesome as it might have been for Sid (or Mario) to pull a Steph Curry, clearly the (don't) grin and bear it approach was the easiest/quietest/quickest way to get through this. It will be done by tomorrow. Everything sucks.

No. Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. (Hillary lost those three by something 100,000 votes total.)

Yeah, I don't think it's trolling at all. Rather, it was likely an attempt to give Trump a gift he'd enjoy. If the Pens management wanted to make any kind of anti-Trump gesture, there'd be no reason to show up in the first place. Especially since Trump predictably contrasted the fine "patriots" on the Penguins to the ungrateful SOBs in the NFL and NBA.

As demonstrated here, it's the perfect choice to appease both Trump and his detractors because you can spin it both ways. I'd like to think the "because you fucking never stop golfing, you useless tool" angle was intentional but I doubt anyone in charge of such a decision would lean into the humor.

One of the broadcasters during the game last night said that the Caps felt like the Pens were rubbing it in by visiting the White House when they came there. Should they be visiting the White House when they have a game in San Jose?

Only way for the Caps to get Pittsburgh out of their collective head is by having a different org knock them out in the 2nd round this year.

Yeah, and I'm going to call bullshit on that. Would like a lot more specifics about who, exactly was offended, and a lot more specific about they were offended about.

Because it could be that someone was annoyed that Trump made some (possibly seen as) sarcastic remarks about the Caps and the crowd booed while the Pens behind Trump plastered on awkward as fuck smiles. Which is all minor, petty shit to be offended about, but it at least gives some context other than this vague notion that the entire Caps organization is offended by the visit.

Or, naybe this "broadcaster" didn't understand that some Caps are offended or bothered by the visit full stop, given all the shit that's been going with the Kings and the NFL and blah blah blah.

Yeah, I don't think whoever it was (Emrick or Olczyk) had any actual evidence for this hot take.

The Penguins goalie is once again Broken Matt Murray, so we're going to be seeing a lot of Tristan Jarry. I'm curious and more than a little excited to see how he performs. Jarry had the higher pedigree coming out of juniors before getting surpassed by Murray in the AHL. Until proven otherwise, I think he's the real thing.

The Pens are still searching for that elusive #3 center. This has been an obsession on Penguins Internet since last June. They've added Riley Sheahan, but I don't think he's the long-term answer.

Possibly related, Ian Cole might be finished here. This sucks. He's been a healthy scratch recently, due to being a possible trade chip. (And maybe having a strained relationship with Coach Mike Sullivan. Who knows?) Cole isn't a star, can probably walk around Pittsburgh unrecognized, but he's a solid defenseman who helped the Pens win a couple of Cups.

There are nagging issues. They're not getting any production from a lot of players, which means that Crosby is probably playing too many minutes. But this team should be fine.

As you probably know, Riley Sheahan had regular shifts all through 2016-2017 with the Red Wings and didn't score any goals until one of the last games of the season. I followed a Twitter account called @cansheahanscore that kept track of him each game, noting his lack of scoring.

So, he may not be the answer.

Will be interesting to see how Jarry does. I picked him up in one of my fantasy hockey leagues.

Yes, that's been mentioned many times here. That almost sounds difficult to do. How do you play third-line minutes all season and not have an occasional goal bounce in?

And the drop-off in Carl Hagelin's production is mystifying.

The last game of the season. He scored twice.

I know that there is a significant degree of randomness, but I was pretty disappointed that he was not left exposed in the expansion draft.

Has Hagelin lost a step (stride?)? If any guy would go from value to AHL with just one step, it’s him.

Hagelin still has his wheels, as far as I know. Still contributes, kills penalties, etc. He was hurt towards the end of last season. But still, 6 goals last year and 1 so far this year is just weird. Nobody in that bottom 6 is producing. That's why they're still looking for a #3 center.

It's a difficult language. You should learn words like 'lottery' and 'Rasmus Dahlin' first.

Hey, the World Juniors are in Buffalo again. You could scout Dahlin in person if you wanted to. Are you going to any of the games? (How have we not talked about this yet?)

um, Sabres don't win lotteries, hello. Dahlin will somehow end up on Vegas while we get Filip Zadina who'll be the 21st century Jiri Dudacek

i know... and it's really sad that 6 years ago i bought a full sheet of tickets and flew to the games but now i finally live here and can't afford to go to the games this year. :(

obviously we've never won a Cup but until recently (relatively) we could almost always count on a good team and maybe only a short downtime. now it's what 7 years since a playoff game? i don't even have the slightest idea how to fix this mess - i'm convinced 3 years ago was easier since the entire roster was 3 guys you know you're gonna sell and a terrible remainder you'd just wait until draft picks would replace. Now they've got a roster that on paper should be somewhere middle of the league but they're an abject disaster. Guys like O'Reilly and Okposo who were (rightfully) so coveted play terrified hockey. I ...

go Jets. that's all i've got.

We're a day away from the Fleury Cup. Pittsburgh media is going out of its way to remind us what a nice guy he is. (We remember, guys. It's only been a few months since he left. I'm guessing he hasn't changed much.) Should be a fun game. I welcome any December game that stands out during the slog.

The top 6 teams in the Metro are separated by 4 points, so I'm not too concerned that the Pens are technically out of a playoff spot now. But there is growing concern about their lack of scoring. This problem isn't going to fix itself.

Las Vegas has turned nicer guys than Fleury into coke-addled Tiesto loving club rats, but I think he's made the transition OK.

He probably owns more than 1 car.

(In all seriousness, I can see it. Seems like a reasonable extravagance for a guy who's probably made about $50M or so.

Only reason I know what he drives is because the Knights do this thing where occasionally they have a player or McPhee or whomever filmed on their drive to the arena and they talk about the game that day or what it's like to be playing their first game since an injury or whatever, etc., etc, and today it was Fleury on the drive to T-Mobile last night. He's very polite to the player's parking attendant at the arena for whatever it's worth.)

Not sure why, but I find the topic of what cars professional athletes drive as endlessly fascinating and I'm not even a car guy.

I can understand this. I never pay attention to that stuff, but I did mark out when I saw a feature on a wrestler I like and noticed that she drove the same model/color Toyota Corolla that I do. This was several years ago, tho, before she was famous and making big money. She probably drives a Camry now.

I admire the spirit, but I won't be able to match you. I can't get worked up about Vegas, and I don't particularly want to see Fleury give up any goals. Maybe rass will check in and bring the hate, but he probably finds it hard to root against Vegas, too.

I just hope that I'll be able to stay awake for the entire game.

Oh, and Matt Murray will be starting in goal for the Pens. This is his first game back since getting hurt a few weeks ago.
