I didn't read the article.
I'm on episode 4 of 6 and it moves at a good clip - even with a lot of background information.
The last similar podcast I listened to was "S Town" which started out great but which soon became a slog and by the end, I wondered why I bothered.
And "The Bugle" Podcast has recovered nicely from the loss of John Oliver. Zaltsman's rotating crew of commentators are by and large pretty damn funny.

He's got a couple of contributors (weekly co-hosts) who are great. This Alice Fraser from Australia is hysterical.

I know exactly what ad that was and in the moment knew it was going to be their last ad with them.
He's not shy about calling out purple on their bullshit. He kept saying "How is this not gambling? You're being money to win money!" a few years back with Draft Kings. And then he misread Nature Box as "Nature's Box" and was like "Oh, you fuck the earth with this company?" And when he realized it was a subscription service to deliver you snacks he went off on lazy people and the "healthy" quality of their product.

The massage company now has a TV ad. Saw it with my wife, and she had a puzzled look thinking about the legitimacy of the company. Not sure why I don't feel like I should mention the company name, it's their ad, after all.

Sure, but it's still stupid shit to say. It's like saying all nurses give their patients handjobs because they saw it in a porno one time. The reality is that it's a pretty good business idea. I don't know if it'll work or not, but I'm surprised someone didn't come up with it sooner.

There is like a 100% chance I get a sexual harassment claim from an employee in this company.
I hear ya, Brian, but Burr says stupid shit like that for every sponsor. He makes fun of the copy they give him to read, he makes fun of their products, he makes fun of everything. Handing him that business model to shill, there was no way he wasn't going there. Me Undies added a women's line, and Burr said it's specially made "to keep your clam dry, ladies." A couple of sponsors take your measurements for custom made clothes or mattresses, and he screams "don't do it, they will make a clone of you, and since you gave them your address, they will kill you." He calls the mattress delivery service gross, says he wouldn't wear the samples sponsors send him... If you are advertising on a show, and don't listen to the show or how they read ads, it's on you if you. Burr absolutely took it too far, but that was absolutely guaranteed to happen.

"Zip........REHCREWTAH! Are you hiring? WELL ARE YA?! Do you need a..[does a callback to a thing he talked about in his podcast up to this point but adds sexual/illegal activity overtones]..."
Then there was "Club W," a wine delivery service, that he read in "Dubya's" voice. No issues there despite the political hilarity. The company then changed their name to WINC (presumably "Wine INC" but they never stated that in the read) and he would say "Winc, spelled W-I-N-C...as in cunt." The next week he actually apologized to them because they sent a strongly stated message about it. They didn't mind going off script, but the gratuitous swearing was too much.
He also does Loot Crate every once in a while. He openly says "I have no idea what any of this fucking shit is, but evidently you nerds who buy it listen to my podcast."
Basically only Stamps.com is a straight read with little deviation. It really is on the sponsors to know better.

Really digging How Did This Get Made?
Only thing that sucks is I haven't seen too many of the movies they do and at this point in my life don't want to watch shitty movies.
That said, I think I would give just about any amount of money to be able to watch a shitty movie with Jason Mantzoukas.

Yes to all of this. Did you happen to hear Mantzoukas and Kroll on one of the Ringer pods back in October? Hilarious.
ETA - pretty sure it was the pod that Chris Ryan and Andy Greenwald normally do, but Ryan wasn't there that day.

No, but I went and listened to the WTF with Mantzoukas, but I realized he must have said "like" in it about 500 or 600 times. Not even exaggerating. It started to get distracting.

For those of us old enough to remember and have followed Watergate, Slate has a podcast called Slow Burn which reviews some of the less prominent parts of the scandal. This week was about how Nixon killed Rep Wright Patman's investigation in August 72 which could have derailed the campaign. Very interesting to listen to.

I've been a big Gimlet fan from Day 1 when they pushed out Start-Up. I'm still very much enjoying Crimetown and Reply All, but there have been some stumbles. They kind of messed up with how canceling Mystery Show, which had a pretty big following. Science VS is very hard for me to listen - I don't like the host and the topics can get pretty boring (IMO). They canceled another show called Undone after what I assume was poor d/l numbers. And they canceled another show (can't remember the name) that was essentially a pretty cool "best of the podcast world" show.
Homecoming is still out there, waiting for the next season to drop. But they are in a weird place right now. There was a window not too long ago when I could hit them up for 2 or 3 quality shows a week. Right now, Crimetown and Reply All are the only shows producing fresh content, and they seem to be going on breaks frequently.
Coming back to this, because some good things have been going on:
Uncivil is FASCINATING and I think a lot of folks here would dig it. It's basically a show about the Civil War, totally debunking a bunch of commonly held myths. Not just all of the Lost Cause stuff, but whether women fought in the war, and the origins and aftermath of Sherman kicking off the 40 acres and a mule thing. HIGHLY recommend this one.
Heavyweight is a brilliant show that came out of the gate with a six show first season and then took of something like 10 months. I had totally forgotten about it. It's back and it's awesome. The host essentially finds a person with some type of problem or issue to resolve, and goes about tackling it. Very touching and often very funny.
Every Little Thing just kind of came in under my radar. The host used to work with Bill Nye and she has a knack for finding kind of obscure topics and getting into the weeds... in a very entertaining way. The episode on Flamingos is awesome.
Mogul is another that debuted this year... It's about hip-hop mogul Chris Lighty. I'm not super into this one, just because it's getting into a world I'm not all that interested in (anymore).
There is also a new season of Start-Up and a show they acquired a year or so ago called The Pitch, which is about entrepreneurs pitching their companies to a panel of VC's. It's decent, not great, as the VC's can be annoying at times.
And there at least 2 more that I haven't even listened to, one is from the host of Sampler, which might not be my deal.
Anyways... I was getting worried about Gimlet, but I think I was (correctly) pointing out what felt like a downturn was really more of a lull while these other shows either got off the ground, rebooted, or kicked off their next season.

Well, if you were like me, I just lost track of it. A 10 month hiatus is asking a lot for people to remember to come back and tune in again.
Oh, and the Moby episode actually plays into this season, in a really strange way.
