Sometimes I don't understand baseball players. Atlanta goes apeshit after Hernandez watches his first career HR a little too long. I get that there's unwritten rules and you shouldn't show the other team up, but it's not like it's a position player and it's a rookie on top of that. Wouldn't it have made more sense to say something to the kid after the game? Baseball players are too damn sensitive.

If you take two out of three (or better) this weekend, I'd say go for it. I'd like their chances at that point.Brontoburglar wrote:at what point do I start to get irrationally excited?

In a related story, the Royals were 1000-1 to win the World Series when I was at the sportsbook about 10 days ago and I was thinking about dumping $5 on them, thinking they might have a shot at making a St. Louis type run from two years ago. Didn't pull the trigger though.

The spitting was the straw. McCann looked like he was just trying to tell the kid to act like less of a douchejockey, which is a right way to handle it (another right way is team mates telling him to knock it the fuck off).brian wrote:Sometimes I don't understand baseball players. Yasiel Puig does something like that about every game.

Of course the benches cleared because MLB players are a weird hybrid of bad-ass, sopping wet vaginas.

JOhnson running up, but making sure he got behind the fucking umpire was a bitch move. He shoulda let his catcher handle it, which he was and if Johnson hadn't run in no one else would have.

Wow, Johnson is really quite the pussy there. Run out of your way, and around, Hernandez to get behind the ump and McCann to then start mouthing off. Then, after everything is over, he mouths that he wants to beat the fuck out of Hernandez, "RIGHT NOW!". Vaginasauce.
Until everything is less insane, I'm mixing weed with wine.
Re: MLB September 2013 Thread
I just looked at McCann's last HR (august 29th) and it looks like he stares at it a bit. He certainly doesn't run out of the box.
This is the same team that threw at Bryce Harper's head.

Hernandez was actually rather apologetic about it after the game. Said McCann called him out on it and he was apologizing when 50 other guys felt the need to run out and nudge one another.

The White Sox threw 55 pitches before recording the first out of the fifth inning. That has to be a record.

In ye olde days, I don't recall routine confrontations over how long it takes a hitter to start running after hitting a homer. Were hitters better about conforming to the 'unwritten laws of baseball' or were players simply much less sensitive?
Re: MLB September 2013 Thread
Wasn't it Steve Carlton that hated intentionally walking guys? He say "Screw that. I'll just hit him". You would not see that bullshit "me" arrogance of admiring oneself if Barry Bonds had been thrown at 688 times instead of being intentionally walked.DC47 wrote:In ye olde days, I don't recall routine confrontations over how long it takes a hitter to start running after hitting a homer. Chris Davis ties Brady Anderson for the O's record with 50 HRs in a season. Anderson also hit #50 in Toronto.

I remember Fisk berating Deion Sanders for not running out a pop up once.

Re: MLB September 2013 Thread
Hunter Pence is one of my favorite players. Loved watching him in low A ball. He was a cut above everyone there. Kinda knew he would succeed.
Would love to see him in a Reds uniform, but that's unlikely. I figure he'll either stay in SF or end up in New York/Boston.

Re: MLB September 2013 Thread
Pence and Timmy are both enjoying huge salary drives, amping up their free-agency prices. I will be very surprised if the Giants don't re-sign Pence. I am expecting several teams to way overbid for Timmay; I dread his start tomorrow in the Bronx, and I'm hoping for lotsa walks and home runs for a failed audition.
Pence is one of the most fundamentally unsound players I have ever seen. Bats funny, runs funny, throws funny. If I had children, I would not allow them to watch him. But he gets the friggin job done. Crazylegs Pence--I love the guy and I will be very disappointed if he departs SF.
ETA: I was unaware these two have the same agent, I wonder how that fact will influence things.
And thanks for the link, AtotheB

And another thing: Billy Hamilton is fast. Last steal was on a pitchout.
There's no way he isn't on the opening day roster next year, and honestly they're gonna have a hard time keeping him off the playoff roster this year.

I am keeping him in my fantasy league so he can singlehandedly win the steals column next year.

It's a good plan. He'll probably never be a .400 OBP guy, but if he can be in the .350 range and get into scoring position in front of Votto, Phillips and Bruce, that's OK.Gunpowder wrote:AB_skin_test wrote:And another thing: Billy Hamilton is fast. Last steal was on a pitchout.

Probably not, but throughout his minor league career he's shown a penchant for getting on base, be it with speed or taking a shit-ton of walks.

I don't think there's any doubt he'll be on the playoff roster. I'm not convinced it's automatic that he's on the opening day roster next year, even if the Reds don't re-sign Choo. He's still learning how to play CF and his hitting is inconsistent, at best.AB_skin_test wrote:And another thing: Billy Hamilton is fast. Last steal was on a pitchout.

What are the rules for the playoff rosters anyway? hamilton wasn't on the 25-man, but I assume there are enough injuries that he could get on there.

Of course, they should have let him try to develop as a shortstop.

Move Choo over to left.
They tried but there's always been doubts about him at short, and - hell. Their window is now.

You know Bruce, Phillips and Votto are penciled in for as long as possible. So you figure the other guys out around that. Would love for the top of that lineup to be Hamilton/Choo/Votto/Frazier/Bruce/Phillips.Gunpowder wrote:
