I was making my pick before you even updated the thread title.

Can we make the 19th guy a random pick from some list of top albums just to fuck up whoever picks 18th?

What if we could find someone not in the draft to make those random picks?

Yeah. I can't tell if ryan was joking since he is 18th, but I would vote for no "random picks" and to allow 18 (and 1 now, I guess) to have two picks in a row.

Its a reference to the average number of PAs it took Biggio to rack up a hit on his slog to 3,000.

(Most drafts I've missed its because I wasn't paying attention and then wish I had. 19 had no meaning and when it wasn't filled, I assumed someone would come in late and grab it. If we get there without someone claiming, it'll disappear.)

My favorite album by my favorite band. "More Songs About Buildings and Food" also right up there, but this album is epic; revolutionary, intelligent, funky and 38 years later, it still sounds amazing.

38 years... I am old. I bought this the week it came out.

I strongly regret you didn't tell us this ahead of time and let Chedda and I rearrange the order of songs. I find that to be a real weak point.

If I'm getting only one National album, I want some screamers on there. Boxer is probably the better album, but Alligator gives me Abel, Lit Up, Mr. November, AND Geese of Beverly Road and Looking for Astronauts.

OK so I was fully expecting to go with two "split the difference" picks here - universally known albums on nearly any published list that I enjoy enough to build a foundation with.

Image

Ha ha! 'Round here, we call that a misdirection!

No, the first pick here should lean all the way towards personal enjoyment and meaning, so at least for this round it comes down to my favorite group, my favorite frontman, and my favorite song. And they all meet at the very front of that overstuffed broken-zippered Caselogic in 8th grade.

The lyrics are of then and definitely now:
Don't think
Dumb is strength
Never shot at a living thing
Glorified version of a pellet gun
Feels so manly
When armed
He won the lottery by being born
Big hand slapped the white male American

Do no wrong, so clean cut
Dirty his hands it comes right off
Police man
I couldn't breathe
Holding me down, hand on my face
They don't scurry when something bigger comes their way
Don't pack themselves together and run as one
Don't shit where they're not supposed to
Don't take what's not theirs, they don't compare
From my runner-up favorite track:
i took a drive today
time to emancipate
i gather speed from you fucking with me
once and for all i'm far away
i hardly believe, finally the shades...are raised...
saw things so much clearer
once you, once you...
rearviewmirror...
saw things so much clearer
once you, once you...
rearviewmirror...
To my all-time favorite:

Music. Boy, I don't know.

Pearl Jam, Vs.

And unapologetically, my 2nd rounder is an album that I don't own, nor does anyone else I know, nor have I ever been anywhere where I've listened to it from start to finish and yet somehow I know every song and they're some of the best songs ever and you don't have to come to my cabin but it's gonna be lit and it doesn't mean anything.

It's a Warren Sapp steal, and he turned out fine, right?

FIRST ROUND POWER RANKINGS!!!

The first five I would have taken myself, the next seven I'd definitely listen to, the next four I don't begrudge but aren't really my style and the final two suck ...

1. Radiohead
2. The National (Boxer)
3. R.E.M.
4. David Bowie
5. The Beatles (Revolver)
6. Talking Heads
7. The Clash
8. Jimi Hendrix
9. The Rolling Stones
10. Bob Dylan
11. Pearl Jam
12. Beastie Boys
13. Pink Floyd
14. U2
15. Led Zeppelin
16. Johnny Cash
17. Billy Joel
18. Frank Sinatra

"Brush With Greatness" time.

My good friend Ben - my former writing partner - became friends with David Arquette a number of years ago. About 15 years ago, he and I were in LA meeting people at the big animation companies and pitching a show idea. We had dinner at the Cox-Arquette's absolutely astounding home in Malibu. On the way out there, he told me that under no circumstances was I to mention anything to do with Counting Crows. Apparently it made David Arquette really jealous.

This was the album of choice my senior year in high school. Full Moon Fever was great, but Wildflowers just holds a special place in my heart. I know Mary Jane's Last Dance wasn't on this album, but it was great when they played it on the It's Good to Be King Tour. Sure the Market Square in the song isn't Market Square Arena, but that is where we were and the place exploded. She was an Indiana girl.
