Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick ***5-11 ENOCHROOT***
I'm going with one of my all time favorites. I mean, I was 8 years old singing 'Sneakin Sally Through the Alley', and when I asked my dad why he'd sneak a woman through an alley, all I'd get was a..."Never mind, son."
Fucking Robert Palmer's debut LP as a solo artist, backed by Lowell George and the various members of the Meters throughout most of the entire LP, and Steve Winwood on the LP's final, 12:18 track. He covered two Allen Toussaint contributions as well ('Sneakin' Sally' and 'From a Whisper to a Scream').
The opening 3 song segue of Sailing Shoes* > Hey Julia > Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley are meant to be played together, with your stereo turned up as loud as your speakers can handle.
* Little Feat cover, but this version destroys Little Feat's if only because it lifts it out of the bluesy scurvy and into a beautified funked up rendition powered by the Meters. (get it? power meter? heh.)
All in all, a gritty, soulful and in-your-face 36 minutes of bliss.
The ending track, 'Through it all There's You' (featuring the aforementioned Steve Winwood)

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick ***5-13 RASS***
I feel the same need expressed by nonlinear in his last pick-post. My favorite of the genre is long off the board, but I've got other options from the same era and a kindred spirit and sound.
Came down to this or their prior/first album. For whatever reason this ended up on my dog-walking-ipod and 3 Feet High and Rising didn't, so this wins. Even the goofiest of the interludes can be endearing when they pop up on random shuffle when I'm still half asleep.
(and I just ruined my ongoing Spotify playlist of the draft, as none their older albums are available)

Swamp introduced me to them, so it seems appropriate.

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick ***5-13 RASS***
I think this is it. In a draft, you'd have more of UTTAD but those two probably give Crash more overall value.
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick ***5-13 RASS***
I think BTCS is their best overall album in terms of song strength. I don't have a skippable song on that album.

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick ***5-16 PRUITT***
"The Crane Wife" feels like an album that shouldn't be listenable going back but every time I hear a song off it I remember how good it was. In some slightly tweaked world, they're Arcade Fire and Arcade Fire is them and they probably don't embarrass themselves. Or if they do, its more fun and intentional.
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick ***5-16 PRUITT***
Yeah that's awful, but I do have BTCS sort of covered coming up here

I don't love The Crane Wife, but it's a fine album. I had The King is Dead and The Hazards of Love on my short list. Nice pick.

The King Is Dead was a really close second for me.

Thank you for the Spotify playlist, by the way. I've been going through it and listening to albums I've either never listened to or haven't in a really long time.
Totally Kafkaesque

Can you post that link back or sticky it to the first post? I've gone through and I must have missed it in the thread.

I wasn't paying attention to any of that judge howard shit. Does NWA take Dre and Cube off the board?

I'm just a grunt, but I would say Hell Yes.
You can lead a horse to fish, but you can't fish out a horse.
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - PRUITT (88th)
I have no idea how I didn't think of NWA when I was fishing for examples early on. I'd like to heard Howard's take, but I would say they're still available solo based on the logic "you can't make an argument that one of Dre, Cube or Eazy made up 50% or more of NWA's value".
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - PRUITT (88th)
Not suggesting we start this anytime soon, as this is going strong. But in a few months or so when this gets a little slower a similar idea might work for movies, sort of the Swampdance Film Fest. Although I don't know if the eliminating factor be actors or the director. Or key grip.
My avatar corresponds on my place in the Swamp posting list with the all-time Home Run list. Number 45 is Paul Konerko with 439.

Oh. Because Dre, in particular, would be up for serious consideration in the NLFC Cabin.mister d wrote: ↑Thu Feb 22, 2018 11:20 am I have no idea how I didn't think of NWA when I was fishing for examples early on. Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - PRUITT (88th)
Therefore, one of the primary effects of this ruling is to overturn the rule that selection of a group removes solo work from consideration of the draft. This rule is impossible to apply either fairly or widely, much less equally, as discussed above, and thus must be set aside.

Man... Good call. Director vs. Actor alone would be a week long pre-draft debate.L-Jam3 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 22, 2018 11:21 am Not suggesting we start this anytime soon, as this is going strong. If this draft was in 1994, I would've taken The Chronic very high (HA!), but it's hard to listen to now.
