MLS 2018
RSL re-signs Beckerman (now with short hair and close to getting Rimando back under contract. Both have been with Salt Lake since 2007.
Also Rubio Rubin may be coming back to the MLS and there are rumors starting that Chicarito could be on the move (because once again Moyes has him on the bench). Of course LigaMX and LAFC pop right to the top of the rumor mill.

Re: MLS 2018
Superdraft is today. Thrilling.
Re: MLS 2018
I realize it's not the biggest deal in the world, but seems like they could hold it some time other than a Friday morning before half of the country is awake.

Re: MLS 2018
The first 2 rounds are done live at the United Soccer Coaches Convention (this year in Philly). They get a good turn out in person because they combine it with "track suit woodstock". The 2nd two rounds are done via conference call over the weekend. A truly "super draft"
As for the cost to move up. Draft is not a very valuable way to stock talent. Most teams get players via Homegrown and free agent/transfer. The college kids just don't typically turn into stars. Maybe some solid players but not stars. DC gave up picks in both rounds this year. One for a starting goalie (well compete for a goalie) and the other for a few 100K in money they can spend on overseas transfers.
This article pointed to the "Best" draft for each team. Not bad players but most did not have the biggest impact for the team that drafted them and best players were probably not obtained that way.

Re: MLS 2018
Timbers don't even have a pick in the first 2 rounds. But they did just sign Foster Langsdorf to a homegrown contract (had 31/8 as a striker for Stanford in the 2 years since Morris has been gone), so that's good.
Re: MLS 2018
Yes but if they were soooo good they would be overseas (Most of the US Youth National Teamers) or homegrown (Morris in Seattle). I mean yeah Ian Harkes is good and started for DC United but nobody was calling for him to get MNT time outside of Camp Cupcake
Re: MLS 2018
So the Columbus Crew used a 2nd round pick on Jake Rozhansky from U of Maryland (transfer from UVA).....who signed a contract last week to play for Maccabi Netanya (once coached by Lothar Matthäus). So they get his MLS rights....but....2nd rounder for a guy who is under contract with another team?
Re: MLS 2018
It's almost like the franchise isn't making the best decisions.
(They're also selling Justin Meram, who is probably one of the best values in the league.)

Re: MLS 2018
This is a crazy year for MLS player relations. Last year it was tampering. This year it is hold outs. Lee Nguyen no showed at Revs practice. He wants a trade. Cyle Larin is not in Orlando, but rather training with Bestikas.
Re: MLS 2018
So going back to the lack of value in college draft. DC United trade rights to home grown player/MD Terp/US Youth National Teamer, Eryk Williamson to Potland. DC gets $100,000 General Allocation Money in 2018, $100,000 Targeted Allocation Money in 2019, a 2018 international spot and a second-round pick in the 2020 MLS Draft. Most importantly 50% of future transfer fees. DC could not get a deal and Eryk was looking at Europe. A big problem was he plays in a place where DC actually has depth. They thought he would be commuting to Richmond for Kickers games this year. Can't believe that is what Williamson wanted. Good deal for both DC and Portland.
DC now needs to finalize South American/Central American transfers that keep being referenced.

Re: MLS 2018
Yeah, pretty stoked about that deal. We really need an heir to the Chara role and it looks like he fits the bill nicely.
Re: MLS 2018
FC Beckham officially announced. Intro video is fantastic..shaky cell phone celeb videos and owners kids.

Regardless of what happens this is a STEAL for Beckham. $25M expansion fee....Nashville paying $150M.

Re: MLS 2018
SKC has signed Johnny Russell (Derby County) and now Felipe Gutierrez (Chile). Both play midfield, though apparently Russell can play on the wing. Still need a striker -- and apparently are still going to sign one.
<--- my reaction
(meanwhile Uri Rosell signs with Orlando, meaning OCSC now has two of the most beloved Sporting KC players of the past five seasons)

Anyone buying this Jermaine Jones the draft was rigged for NE thing he launched into? I am not.
Re: MLS 2018
Las Vegas' new USL club debuted to a sellout crowd.
If I'm being honest, I'm (very) pleasantly surprised. I thought it would do well, but if this is a sign of where it might go, it could end up being one of the top five USL markets. They only have to ground-share for one more year hopefully while the new AAA ballpark is being built and then can perform some much needed work on Cashman to make it more soccer friendly (and expand capacity a little).

So Bobby Boswell is hanging them up. 13 seasons across 3 teams (2 stints in DC). 3 caps for the MNT and 1 Nickelodeon Cap

Yeah, the uniforms are hideous. Not a fan at all.wlu_lax6 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2018 11:04 amEnjoy your Freddy Adu and neon uniforms.brian wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2018 12:21 pm Las Vegas' new USL club debuted to a sellout crowd.

Games that count started last night. Toronto over RSL 2-0 in CCL matchup.
Re: MLS 2018
Howard looked flat footed on both goals. My hot take, he will lose his job before the end of the season.

Re: MLS 2018
Dc played last Vegas yesterday. Check out the starting 11 picture for Vegas...guess those 2 are both better than Freddy Adu.

Khiry Shelton has apparently won the starting striker job for SKC... which says more about SKC than Shelton
