Re: MLS 2018
Sounders sign South Korean Center-back Kim Kee-hee to go along with Ramon Torres and Chad Marshall. From what I've heard, its mainly for depth, since they have a lot of fixtures early in the season, Marshall is super-old, and Torres will be playing in the World Cup this summer.
Re: MLS 2018
He's never shown much, but he also hasn't shown that he doesn't have much, if that makes sense. I'd be very curious to see an offense designed around him in the middle versus seeing him backfill one designed around an all-time great half his size.Brontoburglar wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2018 3:00 pmKhiry Shelton has apparently won the starting striker job for SKC... which says more about SKC than Shelton

Re: MLS 2018
he fits the "Dwyer" mold more than Diego Rubio does, which is fun because they claim they didn't need a player like Dwyer when they traded him to OCSC. Who now has Uri Rosell, another key part of SKC's 2013 title run.mister d wrote: ↑Thu Mar 01, 2018 1:32 pmHe's never shown much, but he also hasn't shown that he doesn't have much, if that makes sense. anyway, we're gonna fuck you up on Sunday night (actually I'm not all that optimistic given SKC is starting four new players in the front six)

Re: MLS 2018
Orlando City was playing down a man the whole second half but had all of the possession. Very clear they were going to equalize and rescue a point against DC. Away point for DC was good but feels like a loss with that late goal.

Re: MLS 2018
that game was shit + it messed with my brain. there was no need to show off the new jerseys last night by having NYCFC wear the same color combination that SKC usually wears at home. as I was watching and working I kept having to recalibrate myself and go "oh shit, that's the wrong team."

Re: MLS 2018
I think that might have turned the game had it not come right at the stroke of halftime.

Re: MLS 2018
So nice few days for MLS teams in the Cocacaf Champions league.
Dempsey gives Seattle a 1-0 win (also a few big saves by Frei)...nice to see Seattle getting after Chivas Fans at the game too.
Robles stands on his head and BWP brace gives 2-0 away win for Red Bulls over Tijuana
and Toronto 2-1 home win over Tigres. Altidore had a nice goal but Osario's in the 89th was slick.

Re: MLS 2018
Atlanta drew more than 72K for their game yesterday against DC. DC used to be the class of the MLS. They were the blueprint for teams. Now, you would hope every team looks at what Atlanta did as they enter the league.
2 Great comments from a readers of the Washington Post article on the game.
It looked like Atlanta's supporter section is bigger than the entire capacity of DC's new Audi Field.
Just another case of Mercedes being a better product than Audi.

72k for soccer in the south is pretty epic.

Re: MLS 2018
Believe it or not, there are better options in MBS that are available on Sunday.
As for DC, I think they are building too small a stadium. 20K does not make sense for a big city MLS stadium in 2018. Either be ambitious or don't build anything.

Re: MLS 2018
LAFC is only seating 22K.
Re: MLS 2018
I'd be surprised if either weren't designed to be expanded.
Re: MLS 2018
Yup DC's home game this week could be record setter. 1/20th of what they played in front of last weekend. The Soccerplex is a great facility but not for a MLS regular season game and not the same day as a youth tournament that will have the other fields and parking packed with folks. Oh and yeah it would be cool to have a soccer tournament with an MLS game as a highlighted event, but the tournament is just going to go on.
wrote:But because it’s not part of the season ticket package and individual sales are slow, the match is threatening to break the league mark of 3,702 set by defunct Chivas USA four years ago. No official data was available, but multiple people familiar with the situation said this week that, barring a late surge, final attendance would probably end up between 3,000 and 3,500.
Re: MLS 2018
will they at least outdraw the U-8 girls game on Field #4?
Re: MLS 2018
The church makes a lot more money parking cars. Have to drag my ass out there (in the drizzle this past weekend) for a ton of new dates now. Ive been downright hostile toward Atlanta United but im gonna have to spring for $80 to get family in the building against Orlando June 30 when then open the top again. Kid has been begging me but I aint payin that for that.
Re: MLS 2018
Good day for the MLSers. Toronto moves on via away goals vs. Tigres and Red Bulls finished the job. 2 MLS teams in the Concacaf Champions League.

Re: MLS 2018
What is an LAFC fan? A transplant? A Chivas fan? A soccer snob that was too cool for MLS when Galaxy was formed? Am I underestimating the geography here? Does anyone know?
Re: MLS 2018
Pretty soon MLS gonna move every team to LA or NY.

Re: MLS 2018
I don't usually say nice things about LA but man this has been a great game in a great setting.
Re: MLS 2018
True. I’m a little salty that MLS business model seems to be putting multiple teams in NY and LA and places that never supported MLS like Miami instead of places like Detroit and Cincinnati that actual support soccer.

Re: MLS 2018
So do the galaxy players just think it’s amazing that their normal passes become goals when they pass to an all time great? Thor first goal was purely zlatan of course but the winner was a cross that usually isn’t a goal, right?

Well in most leagues they get the offside call right so yeah.

Re: MLS 2018
Nothing to make you think that Atlanta would be a good mls city. Silverbacks games were mostly empty. So I'd say someone at mls knows something.
Re: MLS 2018
Atlanta's ownership did a great job ramping up. Got the academy starated. Carlos B made sure they had a good product and were in the community early.

Herrera's version of events not supported by anyone else who was there.

Great quote on the underpants. As a ref, I know the fashion rules exist and are supposed to be enforced, but it is really embarrising when you have to tell an player to correct that type of situation.Pruitt wrote: ↑Wed Apr 04, 2018 6:29 amSorry I missed the game last night.
