Best Online Bachelors Programs for Veterans. And, more importantly since I have graduated, Best Online Graduate Business Programs for Veterans.

Embry-Riddle, not surprisingly, is high on each list. Anyone with any semblance of association with aircraft goes there. I probably should have chosen there way back in the early 2000's, but didn't. School just didn't matter when I was an Airman. Then, in 2010, I enrolled at American Military University (a part of the American Public University System); it doesn't even show on the list for top online colleges for veterans. (Irony?) But it is the #34 school on the scale for Best Online Bachelors program. So I guess that's a consolation?

I remember my buddy at work told me point blank "If you don't get your degree, I'll beat your ass. You're too smart to not go to college. Just go get it. It's also free." So, I chose AMU -- for a few reasons. AMU had a Logistics degree as an option. It was $250 a credit hour, so $750 a class. I get $4,500 every fiscal year in tuition assistance (my GI Bill is fully in tact), therefore I can cleanly attend 6 classes per year for free. They took in my CLEPs and some military related education as well. As of enrollment, I was already a sophomore and had only 17 classes to complete my degree. I settled on this for the ease of it all. I don't think that at the time the online game was sweeping into big name universities. Honestly, I would have liked to get a degree from a brick and mortar college with an online program, but that seemed unlikely. (Full disclosure, I didn't search thoroughly. It very well could have. But everyone seemed to like AMU anyway. So I went with that.) And, as far as the military is concerned, a degree is a degree.

Now I just have to find a decent Master's program and start that. Got any opinions? Do I go the Masters in Logistics route or some other route? Maybe something general and basic to knock it out online and satisfy the military opinion (Naturally, hated rival of my adopted University of Arizona, Arizona State University is tops on the list for MBAs. Kinda funny.) and, if it's even likely, shoot for the moon and enroll in MI Fucking T for their Logistics program or the aforementioned Embry-Riddle? I honestly have no idea what to do.

I have a friend that did an online master's program for Arizona State. I can see what she thought about it if you want. I assume it was probably some kind of master's in education, not an MBA though. My only advice would probably be to choose a university that is recognizable to employers. Arizona State would fit the bill, of course. (As obviously would MIT.)

Employers will know you did your 20 and probably not care too much where your MBA came from as long as it's from anything approximating a respectable university.

(And I really do think the CMU/veteran connection is cool. I couldn't tell you how many military/vets I've met who are proud to have gotten their degree from CMU despite never even having visited Mount Pleasant. They must do a good job of developing some kind of school spirit. They usually even have T-shirts and sweatshirts and whatnot. I love it.)

Surely. Nothing's definite, and I'm open to all avenues. I have time.

I really want to know now if 4 years ago big time colleges offered online classes. I know the University of Maryland did as well as Southern Illinois, but it was specific programs, I believe. Seeing this list of colleges kind of bums me out. The piece of paper I'll hang up at work could read a recognizable college and not something only recognizable to military members that had to look for something easy and accessible online.

One thing I do know was that I researched graduate degrees around the same time as my bachelors. I wanted to know if AMU's degree was worth it. I Googled around and Ohio State's Fisher College was one of the only Logistics Masters programs I could find. I emailed the professor there and he was ecstatic I reached out to him. THE Ohio State would welcome me to their school without question with a degree from AMU. So that was another reason I pursued it. Everything seemed legit.

But if I was starting right now in pursuit of a degree, I would most assuredly look for an actual recognizable college. I guess I'm just vain like that.

And you're right. It is cool that your alma mater is so veteran friendly. Gives you all those warm fuzzies.

Quick question: any reason why an active member of the U.S. Military* would not be allowed to travel to Mexico on vacation?

Moot point now, but my wife and her friends were planning a collective 40th birthday getaway, and her friend ruled out Cancun on that basis.

*more specifically, the spouse of a pilot in the USAF

Here's the foreign clearance guide website: https://www.fcg.pentagon.mil/fcg.cfm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Here's the State Department website about travel to Mexico: http://travel.state.gov/content/passpor ... rning.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

When I was stationed in Arizona (and 50 miles from the border with Sonora), I was not allowed to go anywhere within the border or 50 miles inland from it. Period. I'm property of the government, therefore they disallow me to go to "protect the investment."

I could, however, go to vacationing spots like Acapulco and Cancun and the like if I went through a litany of briefings and had my travel approved by a Colonel or above. This even applies to layovers and port stops on cruises too.

In short, Donald Trump is wrong. The murderers, rapists, and thugs aren't coming across the border. They are staying there to commit heinous crimes and traffic in drugs and people.

But civilians should be ok to go. The spouse is probably just relaying her husband's limitations and placing them upon herself.

No, it just means I couldn't go to Tijuana.

The vehicle processing center closest to Tucson is in San Diego. Plus I've been TDY (temporary duty) to Coronado before. San Diego is quite fine.

Edit:

I think I know why you asked the question. The 50 miles thing. That was confusing. Basically I can go anywhere in America. The issue at the border is the 50 mile zone into Mexico itself. That's the real danger area. I didn't mean 50 miles within the border to Mexico. My bad.

I work at CU I have to make snide CSU comments twice a day or I get demerits. Coupled with my degrees from New Mexico Ifeel I'm holding back.

At least you didn't go to NMSU, Utah, or BYU.

(Did you learn how to needlepoint at CSU? I hear you can do that for credit there.)

Don't piss off the Island folks. They're very territorial.

Tumon Bay has a lot of awesome nightlife. From what I'm told the strip clubs are just as they were 10 years ago.

The two best beaches on the Island are on Andersen AFB.

The bowling alley has the best food on base.

Watch out for random rainstorms.

Wear 2 condoms.

I don't think Ivy League schools offer online bachelors programs for military and veterans, so no. If they did I suspect they'd be at the top of the list.

Thanks, Johnnie. Everyone I know who has been to Guam has nothing but good things to say about it. The worst thing they have to say is 'poor man's hawaii', which is not bad at all.

Only down side I can think of is the current typhoon/hurricane activity in the Pacific.

Textbook lesson in "better to ask forgiveness than permission."

That's so military of what he's getting in trouble for. It's like going to jail for tax evasion when the reality is you're Al Capone.

I've known of chicks that were in the military that took up stripping on the side and told no one because of the same nonsensical aspect that you have to tell the military everything you're ever going to do ever.

I'm surprised he's not getting in trouble for not filling or a high risk activity worksheet too!

(That's another military -ism whereby you tell your unit safety representative that you're going to engage in an activity with more risk than walking down the street. Because if you don't and you get injured doing said activity your medical bills don't get paid.)

This thread's fun. It started with a "You should have gone to Central Michigan, son," continued with Mexico and Guam questions, had a non sequitur porn story, and then my ultimate boss, commander in chief of the armed forces, The Donald, doesn't get stealth.

Anyhoo, I still haven't started a master's plan and I'm as close to retirement now as the beginning of this thread is to now. (3.5 years). And my girlfriend and friends from Arizona are going to Mexico this weekend.

Well, he probably won't be around when I'm retired, but hiring a guy in this manner is bullshit. And since it's a Trump appointee I don't have much faith in anything right now.

I already didn't think much of the VA (from their scandal a couple years back during Obama's administrative when Shinseki was ultimately fired) and this lowers my opinion even further.

I'm doing ok. Still very weird that I'm home though.

On Monday I reported to my home station commander and had an unfavorable information file tacked onto my LoR. It'll be on my record for a year, I'm told. I'll probably also have a referral performance report done. From there, we'll see. I feel like people are going to gun for me because I'm basically on thin ice. There was even talk of an "administrative demotion" where I just get a stripe taken because I'm not upholding standards. I'm told that was shot down, but I trust no one.

I learned that a person in my chain of command has always disliked my style of enforcing standards. By that I mean I get angry at people who don't follow my directions or at people who outrank me that want to micromanage my programs. When I say "no" or "do this or you're in trouble" that's not allowed, apparently.

I have to play the political game now, which I detest with everything I am. I'll probably defer a lot of decision making to those I work with for the next several months. I'll just try to blend into the background and just do work when told.

I'm also going to document every interaction with every person who I feel is interacting with me just to get dirt on me. And I'm going to have to be very thorough with note taking. It's one thing to get in trouble and then that's it, but quite another when you get in trouble and have the paranoia factor of "is this person trying to make it worse because they know I can't mess up."

So yea. One day at a time.

Thanks for checking on me though.

Oh, also, I start long term mental health treatment on the 21st. Hopefully it helps.

I actually chatted with my mom yesterday. I always call her on my dad's birthday. Well, she got rushed to the hospital for another possible surgery. (8 in the last year.)

But she's been filled in by my sister about my ordeal and she says in her know-it-all tone while being in a hospital with severe abdominal pain "Well, I know you better than you know yourself. I always thought that there was an anger about you from about 7 or 8 years old..."

Thanks, mom. That'll come up in therapy, I'm sure.

I've met a good chunk of folks on here in real life, so they know my personality. I have a direct-ness with my words and with how I speak, especially when I'm correct about whatever.

Translate that to my job and constantly being told by leadership and the like that I'm part of the "backbone of the air Force" and a "technical expert" in my career field and "someone who is in a leadership position" etc... and I can certainly understand how I can come off to people. And when I see those people are wrong despite guidance and regulation, I start to internally panic about myself and that translates to stress which translates to anger which translates to being sent home early from a deployment.

Basically I need to give a shit less despite giving a shit more. My logic brain can't compute that. I need to be a politician who remains stoic during everything. Easier said that done.
