Re: The Ringer
How are you liking the book? I've thought of picking it up, but my apprehension with any Grantland/Ringer writer is that it will be him trying too hard to show how hip and quirky he is.

Re: The Ringer
It's pretty good. It does read like a succession of Ringer Articles, but I really dig his style more than I used to.
My gall is sufficiently mitigated. Thank you for your concern.

It has gotten so wonderfully weird for a few chapters here in the middle.

His brief discussion of AC Green penis vs. Chamberlain penis vs. unknown third party NBA penis in the Frankenhooker NBA chapter is awesome. He writes funny quirky stuff well. I am four chapters in, it's worth the money.

I have finished the book. Let me know if you want me to send it along. Otherwise i'll donate it to the library next week.

Bump.
When Danny Chau writes it’s always worth the time. This one is on a week of food in New Orleans. His experience and discussion of being a Vietnamese immigrant and the melding of food traditions is a unique read to me anyway:

Also, they are apparently of the opinion that 2018 was a seminal year for the release of video game tentpoles and are looking back at same. Hadn't heard of this one:

This guy's supposed to be a foodie and he got the fried chicken instead of the rabbit and sausage jambalaya from Coop's Place?tennbengal wrote: ↑Mon Jan 29, 2018 6:31 am Bump.

OK, whatevs.
ETA: He may have gotten the combination plate though I don't think that explicitly includes the rabbit & sausage jambalaya. Still, if it does and if he did...I'll allow it.

Re: The Ringer
Muffaletta from there is a weird choice IMO. If you're going to Cochon Butcher, why not get something with pork?

Re: The Ringer
Muffaletta sammies have a pretty good amount of pork in em.
My gall is sufficiently mitigated. Thank you for your concern.
Re: The Ringer
True, though it's more like lunch meat, processed pork but if you really want a muffaletta sandwich, New Orleans is the place and if you want a sandwich in New Orleans, Cochon Butcher is pretty much the place (though there's a lot of places).

Re: The Ringer
My mind is blown. Did you know there were multiple Bozo the clowns? Like 183 at one point? I completely assumed the one on WGN was just nationwide on the superstation.

Isn't it grammatically correct to say "multiple Bozos the Clown?"A_B wrote: ↑Fri Mar 23, 2018 11:48 am My mind is blown. Did you know there were multiple Bozo the clowns? Like 183 at one point? I completely assumed the one on WGN was just nationwide on the superstation.

Sure, but if you're going to start doing that to my posts with as bad of a typist as I am, you have your work cut out for you.

Re: The Ringer
I'll be even more pedantic and side with A_B on this one.
"Bozo the Clown" is the phrase that is being modified, therefore the "s" goes after clown.
Multiple Bozos.
Multiple Clowns.
Multiple Bozo the Clowns.

No, I'm with Carwash. It's like describing multiples of the title of attorney general. It's not attorney generals, it's attorneys general.

Re: The Ringer
But "Bozo" is singluar. Each guy who dressed up was assuming his character.

There's no post-positive adjective in Bozo the Clown. It's all noun, baby. Pruitt's right.

Okay, I didn't mean to offend with the Rosie O'Donnell comment (I actually have a certain amount of respect for her as she was the first public Trump hater...)
But watch the trailer for that movie. It may be the worst thing I have ever seen.

Pretty sure prime Dana Delaney saves it from that bit of hyperbole.

Pretty much a perfect movie. Worst part about the movie is Jennifer Love Hewitt, but it's peak-hot JLH so that evens it out.

I've never seen it either, but it sounds like it should. I remember it coming out, but it didn't strike me as something that stood out from all the mediocre teen movies with Freddie Prinze Jr. and shit that were flooding the market at that time.

It's one of those movies I am not sure I have seen all the way through in one sitting, but probably have seen the entire movie several times over.

The biggest differences are that it's good and funny and it's not "Shakespeare but, like, now ya know?"
