Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - RASS (240th)
Great song from that album... with a very strange promotional video.
"beautiful, with an exotic-yet-familiar facial structure and an arresting gaze."
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - ENOCHROOT (241st)
Blur - blur
OK I'm revisiting my love for Brit pop now. I prefer these guys to Oasis (a lot more the older I get, actually)..They picked up the pieces of a tattered Madchester scene and began to define their own sound through the 90s, but it wasn't until this LP that they really (to me) found their niche in a lo-fi, indie styling.
It leads off with this track, visits the dysphoria of anthem rock in Song 2, and the rest of the LP finishes the run-thru of your aural senses.
This video should autoplay the remainder of the LP...

I’m sad I’ve received no love for my favorite pompous British act.

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - NONLINEAR (242nd)
This guy has been on the NLFC prospect board from the beginning. Not wanting to repeat their first round mistake of taking an album that probably would've better served the artist if the rules allowed a live performance or soundtrack, they've been cooling their jets at home with their family in the living room.
Cool your jets no longer, as this monster of the reggae pantheon bursts out of hiding with NLFC's late round selection of...
Jimmy Cliff - Eponymous (Wonderful World)
The Harder They Come soundtrack is really probably his best album, but that's a) against the rules and b) not solely his music, so... We land with this truly awesome set of songs. It doesn't have his most popular track, but it is fantastic all the way through.

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - RUSH (243rd)
Going through the awesome Spotify playlist - I'd forgotten just how much fun that Violent Femmes album was. Essentially pop punk just a few years ahead of the trend.
Totally Kafkaesque

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - BSF (244rd)
BSF just let me know he's the only one who is ever busy with work and that he'll pick by next Saturday.
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - BSF (244rd)
Good joke. Got another one or the same one over and over again when I don't log into the swamp for more than 3 hours?

Fucking a, guy.
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - BSF (244rd)
Had this album on a lot since I bought it. I went back through a lot of their old stuff too but I think I like this one best.

To answer the question, it’ll likely just be a slightly reworded version of that one.
(And nice pick!)

Here's a great song.

The Band’s version of that song is one of my fvroite songs of all time.

Sorry for the delay:
My pick:
Japandroids - Near To The Wild Heart Of Life

Shit. They totally slipped my mind but would have added a nice dimension. I think I've lost more good calls in this round than the last 5 or 6.
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - SANCARLOS (246th)
Going back to some much-loved hard rock music of the high school sancarlos. UFO. No Heavy Petting.
Great guitar solo, by Michael Schenker

1, 2, or 5.
well this is gonna be someone's new signature - bronto
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - BFJ (248th)
I could have gone 1 or 2 but "The Funeral" is still too good of a song to pass on. Were they your next?
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - BFJ (248th)
They were like the Japandroids were to you. I have no idea how they slipped my mind. Probably would've taken them a while back.

BFJ is the town wizard who runs a magic shop. He also has a golem that he has trained to attack anti-Semites.

I'm going with loudness, and a defensive pick (with suspicions that PDX and Brian may have them on their list) with this one.

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - LJAM (250th)
As poignant today as it was 54 years ago:
My avatar corresponds on my place in the Swamp posting list with the all-time Home Run list. Number 45 is Paul Konerko with 439.
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - CHEDDA (249th)
I think because of their name I always thought they were emo-core. Spinning now and gotta say they're not bad. More alt-rock than I expected.govmentchedda wrote: ↑Fri Mar 30, 2018 2:00 pm I'm going with loudness, and a defensive pick (with suspicions that PDX and Brian may have them on their list) with this one.

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - PDX (251st)
The night I saw them live, they exchanged instruments with each other for damn near every song. Craziest thing I've ever seen at a show.
To be clear bandmember A would play guitar on one song, then bass the next song, then drums, etc., NOT bandmember A would switch guitars for different songs.

Well, they’d slipped his mind too, but he found it in a drawer.

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - SANCARLOS (246th)
Considered them, but their best album (By far, in my opinion) is the live 'Strangers In The Night') and I didn't want to face the wrath of the Commish by drafting a live album.
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - PDX (251st)
I completely agree that UFO’s best album was their live one. They were great in concert.
I also have had Sam Cooke on my short list, so good one, L-jam.

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - PDX (251st)
Rush is just super skilled at the instruments that they play. I'm sure Neil Peart would be trimumphent at whatever he wanted to play though
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - PDX (251st)
Bands I’ve seen switch up instruments include Sloan, Wilco, Arcade Fire, Yo La Tengo. I *think* Gomez did too, but I was really drunk when I saw them live, so...
Phish has swapped instruments a few times, notably whenever they play the song Walfredo, or the rotation jams they’d do circa ‘95.

Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - PDX (251st)
I saw Jethro Tull way back in college and they rotated around on instruments a few times. I'd never even heard of bands doing that.
Totally Kafkaesque
Re: Swamp Album Draft: Current Pick - PDX (251st)
Now that you mentioned it, I’m pretty sure Supertramp used to as well.
