Re: Man's Best Friend
Thanks everyone. Had my middle son with me. It was a peaceful end for a sweet girl. The vets couldn't have been more supportive.

I’m so sorry. I’ve loved many dogs, but the ones I loved best were both yellow labs. Much love to your family.

There was a guy in Portland that I'd often cross paths with walking his pig.

we are going to bark at the park tonight for the royals game. well, Penny is going with her dog-cousin. I figured Toby would prefer a night with the grandparents getting treats every 15 minutes.

Re: Man's Best Friend
I have a friend who lives down the street. Coincidentally, his son is a student at my old school, Colorado State. The kid majors in agriculture/business (amazing major for a kid from an urban area), and a couple years ago he was home with his tiny pet piglet. The piglet was only about 10 pounds and he walked it around on a leash. Fast-forward to today - his father says he still has his pet pig, but it is now a couple hundred pounds of hog, and has to live on a farm outside of town - but he still walks it on a leash/harness!

Re: Man's Best Friend
Hate bumping this thread with bad news, but not sure Sydney is going to make it through the week. She's 13 1/2 now and has not really been herself the last couple of weeks. Seldomly eating, not begging for food and occasionally listless. Took her to the vet last week and the vet said her kidney function levels were so bad she was surprised Sydney was still alive much less walking around and eating (which she was eating better last week). We did some antibiotics and some special kidney food to try and improve things, but I guess she's a lot worse and she's just out of it. Worst of all I'm in Phoenix until tomorrow for a concert tonight so I might have to jet back to Vegas later in the day maybe depending. Best care scenario the pain pills we have work and she starts eating a little and gets back closer to normal, but she only has one kidney to begin with and this looks like the end.
Guess I just need to share somewhere with someone who will listen. If nothing else, send good thoughts for her to make it through for another 24 hours so I can be home with her at the end. (She doesn't appear to be in any pain right now my wife says, so that's something.)

And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Shit. Sorry Brian.
It seems like it just turns so fast, even though you know they are getting up there in years.

Thanks everyone. Have an appointment with the vet tomorrow to send her out peacefully and alleviate her pain. Hug your doggos tonight. I know I will.

Jeez Brian, that is so sad.
You'll miss her terribly, but you made her a very, very happy girl for her entire life.

Man, that's a bummer.
But it sounds like Sydney had a great run. I think I'm gonna go hug my dogs.

Sorry Brian. Hope it's an easy transition for you and Sydney has a smooth go down the rainbow bridge. Keeping you in our thoughts.

Want you guys to know your messages did and do mean a lot, thanks. It was difficult, but she's not suffering any longer. Considering how sick she got when she was six, the extra seven years were an amazing blessing. We'll remember a lot of that time more than we do the last couple months where she was really slowing down.
And who knows. When we get back from Thailand in a couple of months maybe we'll have some happy news to post in this thread. Give your doggos a treat from us today.
