And there you have it. 6 passes to flay the ARG defense.

Beautiful goal. But holy balls, the ARG D is just a sieve.

It's gonna suck when Portugal or Uruguay drag this team into a 0-0 slugfest and win on penalties

Yeah, I’d like to see France or Belgium make the final and it’s gonna be a bummer when they lose in brutal 0-0 or 1-0 games.

Yeah, sorry, annoying real time posting without context.

Ref might have given them the benefit of the doubt. I was glad he didn't add on additional time, because that was what I think they were trying to do. Not at first, that was just seeing red. But it started to look a little cynical.

Then again, we're talking about Argentinians. Not the most subdued bunch (says a hot-headed Irishman.)

Well, neutral soccer fans are getting an absolutely amazing day.

Uruguay are probably the most effective "frustration as a deliberate tactic" team as I've ever seen. Maybe some of the Italian teams?

I don't like it when announcers get too caught up in the refs performance like this. It's a chippy game between two pretty cynical/roll around on the ground on EVERY play... Not an easy task. Not saying he shouldn't throw some cards around to get them to cut the shit, but sometimes you try to that and you get in a loop of carding half the guys on the field.

What's crazy about URU, and I alluded to it earlier, they are insanely dangerous on the counter. So, you get all frustrated that they are bunkering, but then they score two absolutely world class goals out of that style.

That's the massive difference between them and all these Concacaf and Asian teams that bunker... They fucking FINISH, man. It's unbelievable. That's a lot of commitment to a system that SUCKS to play. But I guess it's easy to stick with it when you're successful.

All of that said, you really have to think POR have another in them tonight.

If you had told me yesterday that I was going to wake up and watch 2 knockout games with a total of 10 goals scored, I would have had a tough time sleeping.

This is incredible.

URU also play with a passion and desperation unmatched by anyone else.

Everytime they take the field they are protecting their two world cup titles and their history.

Goalkeeping note:

I have now watched Cavani's second goal a dozen times now. Rui Patricio is out of position on that shot by about 2 yards. Maybe a little less. But he is way too close to his nearpost, especially given how far out the play was from his goal. He was positioned like that shot was coming for 12 yards, not 20.

That's a really good example of positioning fucking up a goalie's chance of making a save. I'm not sure he gets there in the right position, but a shot like that, from the inside of the boot, it's not like it was an absolute rocket, it was a placement shot. If he's off his line a little more and a step or two more to his left?

Fucking amazing shot, just wanted to say I bet in Portugal they're gonna spend some time breaking that down.

Suarez is great, but he is a diver, a weasel and a truly hateful player.

Which would make him maybe the 5th worst sportsman on Portugal. God I hate that team.

Uruguay is a tough, tough bunch of players. That Laxalt and Torreira played amazingly. The game with France should be a classic.

Russia have to get the ball first.

A Spain 1-0 lead just kills this game.

Well, they've got to get near the box to make that bet pay off.

Russia just look like they're biding time to start pressing. Don't want to get down 2-0 early, so they're just sitting back. They'll come out either right out of the half or around minute 50 and start putting the hammer down.

Tl:dr - This shit is boring, wait for it.

Well, shit, as I'm typing that, they finally put something dangerous together.
