#12 would be for Christopher Walken to play him in a movie if Gowdy was ever consequential.

I just read the Post's summary of the day's shenanigans on the Hill and watched some of the highlights, and there is no wonder why Congress' approval ratings are pretty much in single digits.

What a bunch of fucking morons.

Agent Strzok has earned himself a job today as either a lobbyist or a press spokesman for the candidate of his choice. He has done exceedingly well in a shitstorm that has been equal parts anger and idiocy.

Trump Trashes May

While hyping her main rival.
“I have a lot of respect for Boris. He obviously likes me and says very good things about me,” Trump told the tabloid. “I was very saddened to see he was leaving government, and I hope he goes back in at some point. I think he is a great representative for your country.”

Asked whether Johnson could find himself in 10 Downing Street one day, Trump said, “Well I am not pitting one against the other. I am just saying I think he would be a great prime minister. I think he’s got what it takes.”

The timing is fucking delicious.

I listened to some of it live, and one point it said these Russians worked to coordinate the release of an "unnamed organization" to maximize the effect of the releases... I mean, I don't think he was talking about Wikileaks there, but maybe I'm wrong.

ETA - Looking at the transcript, I'm probably wrong. Likely referencing Wiki, not Trump Campaign.

Anyone else see this in the stories about today's indictments...

(From the Guardian)
It said Russia also conspired to break into the computer systems of state elections authorities and election equipment manufacturers, to steal sensitive information about American voters.

It further revealed that an unidentified US congressional candidate received stolen documents relating to his or her opponent from the Russian operatives in August 2016. The Russian hackers also transferred large amounts of data to a state-registered lobbyist and a reporter, the indictment said.
Which reporter? Which lobbyist?

Have fun with Putin asshole.

How the fuck do Republican citizens not see a problem with this: every intelligence agency 100% confirms Russia meddled in our election. A Republican of the highest integrity and a long history of military service and serving as arguably the most respected Director in the history of the FBI is conducting an investigation to figure out what happened. The President and the majority party of Congress desperately want to prevent an investigation into how Russia meddled in our election. If Trump and the GOP weren't complicit, why would they fight to prevent this investigation? It's so fucking ludicrous. This was never about investigating Trump, it was always about how the Russians meddled, what did they do, and how do we protect the integrity of future elections, and preventing it from happening again.

Because the name "Obama" is thrown out by Trump. Therefore it is not an American problem, it is a Democrat issue.

This is the sort of thing that really makes you despair over the health of the country. That so many ignore a central threat to the nation for the purpose of playing partisan politics. God only knows what would have happened if these people were in power during WW 2.

I don’t think it’s because they view it as a “Democrat problem.” I just think they genuinely don’t care about it because they won. The same way they wouldn’t care if the Koch Brothers pooled their money to bribe a bunch of state officials to commit election fraud. It was evident from the 2000 Florida election fiasco — well before Obama, Trump or Russia came on the scene — how much the GOP cares about the sanctity of our democratic process.

Just straight line it back to where conservatives get their national news - Fox News. There was a tweet yesterday showing how far you had to scroll down their website buried the most recent news on the Russian interference. They simply don't talk about stories that hurt the conservative viewpoint, burying it for things like the change of the cheeseburger emoji instead of reporting the Manafort indictment.

All of you are correct.

Plus it doesn't help when there's this pathological necessity on behalf of more liberally slanted news sources to be objective by having both sides present.

When one side brings an expert with facts, evidence, and logic and the other brings a Tasmanian Devil with gish gallop to a "debate" amongst "pundits" and it's painted as "equal," it's bullshit.

This is the crux of Michelle Wolf's stand up and the part I linked earlier about how the liberally slanted media makes itself culpable in all of this.

Let Fox be Fox. Let everyone else say, "Nope, that's bullshit." But instead profits reign and the Jerry Springer method of presenting the "news" wins out.

Democrats also need to give serious thought to pushing for some significant structural changes. Because the Electoral College, gerrymandering, and equal distribution of Senators, regardless of population, all allow for what’s essentially one-party rule by a political party that doesn’t even have a majority. The GOP has won the popular vote for the presidency only once since 1988 (in 2004) and yet it controls every branch of the federal government and the vast majority of state governments. Democrats are almost allergic to pushing for big changes, but they are up against it for the foreseeable future regardless of Trump. Just typing this out frustrates me because it reminds me that the 2008 Election gave the Dems a once in a lifetime opportunity for a second New Deal but they wasted that chance by listening to the likes of Lieberman, Geithner and Rahm Emanuel.

I've genuinely not seen quite this level of agreement on Trump doing an awful thing prior to now from even the right. Even the Fox types seems taken aback. Won't mean anything, I am certain, as McConnell and Ryan are happy to continue to commit treason, as are every other elected Republican rep, but, still, even for Trump, this was apparently a shit show.

I think Ryan and other Republicans will use this to "make a break for it" and try to turn public opinion against Trump. This will of course only lead to a full-scale invasion of Venezuela.

If So, Than Why Would Putin Make This Offer?
In other words, this is Putin’s “interesting idea” to address exhaustively documented allegations that employees of the Russian government tried to interfere in the 2016 presidential campaign by hacking into, and publishing, private emails from one major party in the campaign:

Have Russian government officials ask other Russian government officials if the Russian government told them to commit a crime.
Let US officials watch Russian officials ask other Russian officials if the Russian government told them to commit a crime.
Send Russian officials into the US to investigate allegations against domestic critics of Vladimir Putin.

Depends who exactly you mean by “Trump and Republicans.” I said like 3 days ago in this thread that, based on the latest indictment, I expect Roger Stone to be indicted. Will anyone closer to Trump get directly implicated? I don’t know.

The more immediate question is whether Congressional Repuclicans will actually back to their tough talk today with any meaningful action. I think we all know the answer to that.

McConnell. Ryan. I think they were in on it too. And others in leadership.
