So I'm either eating data or taking time to find or curate playlists and download them to my phone (I don't currently pay for Spotify so it would have to be Amazon Music for me) vs starting my car and hitting a button. That's it.

Confession: I don't really know what Yacht rock is. I just assume it's Sailing Away on loop.

Less than 24 hours in and already with the Peter Frampton bullshit. You're one James Taylor song away from losing your preset status Yacht Rock...

My only complaint about the channel is the too-frequent playing of Georgie Porgie by Toto. Not sure why that song exists.

That's the worst song on regular rotation on the channel for sure. Answering Machine by Rupert Holmes is not too far behind though.

That song exists so that Jeezy could sample it in a rap song that contains the all-time great lyric: “War erry day in the streets. It’s like Libya./ Will I get shot in the head? It’s like trivia.”

Not sure if anyone watches Documentary Now but if you like documentaries and satire, you should be. At the very least, watch the last two episodes of S1. Two parter about a band that had 1 great album then couldn't deal with it. Sort of a Behind The Music spoof, except these guys basically birthed Yacht Rock.

My girlfriend and roommate, both younger than me, love Yacht Rock. They'll tell Alexa to play it and off it goes.

But I'm asking this honestly...is this not just what we called "easy listening" in the 80s and 90s. I swear to God this is what my mom listened to on Magic 106.7 Boston when I was growing up.

Unless Alexa is playing the wrong stuff, then I'm totally off.

Ok, cool. I thought that by it having the name Yacht Rock it alluded to something specific and different within another genre of music I was completely unaware of.

Then all I'm hearing is Michael McDonald, Chaka Khan, and other stuff rappers have been "sampling" since forever ago and I'm like "Oh, this is Yacht Rock? Huh."

Calling it a subset of easy listening would not be unfair. But not all 70s/80s easy listening music is yacht rock.

It’s branded Yacht Rock because it gains cred..a hipness..that way. Calling it Soft Rock / Adult Contemporary will just get your ass beat by the smallest guy in the room. (O;

Just because it’s my wife’s Jersey Shore theme song and our vacation is almost over.

(I was disappointingly unable to wrangle a picture of both my car stereo on YR and the sign for the local Yacht Club. About the worst thing to happen this week, so I’m ok)

Seeing Christopher Cross slinging that Fender double neck reminds me of Jimmy Page rocking that double Gibson. Same 12 string up top, too.

Mellow is the man who knows what he's been missing
Many, many men can't see the open road
Well it's not far back to sanity, at least it's not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away and find serenity
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see.
Believe me.

There’s got to be a way to mash Sailing with a Zeppelin song.
