I had the same thought while watching this. Just on optics alone, here is a PROSECUTOR going after a (alleged) sexual assault victim while 11 overstuffed or overaged very white men looked on from front row seats.

The can't really say they didn't know about it when they came up with the support letter IMMEDIATELY after the story broke. They knew, though it wasn't going to matter ad proceeded to try spin control when it broke.

And at this point it isn't about them losing votes. That will likely be negligible. It's about the other side getting everyone motivated to overtake those votes.
