So does Manchin meeting with Flake, Murkowski and Collins mean Kavanaugh is getting 52 instead of 51?

Re: Bart O’Kavanaugh hearings and inevitable confirmation
I assume manchin is a yes to allow two of those three to vote no.
Re: Bart O’Kavanaugh hearings and inevitable confirmation
Say Manchin casts the deciding vote to confirm Kavenaugh, which allows him to keep his seat which ends up allowing the Democrats to take the senate (and assume the house too). Do you take that trade off - control of congress for a horrible, conservative supreme court judge?

Which seems like the logical (and probably correct) answer. Maybe depends on how much immediate damage you think Trump could do for two years with congress in his pocket.Brontoburglar wrote: ↑Thu Sep 27, 2018 8:51 pmlifetime appointments >>>>>> elected positionstravzilla wrote: ↑Thu Sep 27, 2018 8:36 pm Say Manchin casts the deciding vote to confirm Kavenaugh, which allows him to keep his seat which ends up allowing the Democrats to take the senate (and assume the house too). Re: Bart O’Kavanaugh hearings and inevitable confirmation
If he knows he can get away with it, which Kavanaugh allows for, the answer is “a lot more”. And that’s before you get into the social issue disasters this SCOTUS can cause.

He's already had them in his pocket for two and it's been bad ... but the SC is more stuff that will take a lot longer to repair.travzilla wrote: ↑Thu Sep 27, 2018 9:00 pmWhich seems like the logical (and probably correct) answer. Fuck Kavanaugh. Double Fuck Lindsey Graham.
Re: Bart O’Kavanaugh hearings and inevitable confirmation
The American Bar Association has urged the Senate to delay a vote on Kavanaugh so that the FBI can do a proper investigation into Kavanaugh.
I’d like to see some justices on the court weigh in. I won’t hold my breath on that, though.

That really needs to be said more succinctly in the wake of this. Fucking fuck Flake, man. He's McCain all over again. "These are human beings!"

Avenatti has to understand that if he's light on corroborative evidence, his reputation will take a massive hit, right?

The thing about Avenatti is, yes, he understands that. He knows he isn't inhabiting the Fox space, where all is forgiven as long as you're attacking the right people.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Re: Bart O’Kavanaugh hearings and inevitable confirmation
I guess another complication is the fact that if Kavanaugh goes down, they just put another right wing justice on the Court. So a vote by Manchin for Kavanaugh probably doesn't have much practical implication. Other than telling millions of women their lives don't matter.travzilla wrote: ↑Thu Sep 27, 2018 9:00 pmWhich seems like the logical (and probably correct) answer. I think everyone still expects a right wing justice. Just not THIS right wing justice, preferably.

Some serious back door stuff going on right now. Senators keep getting up and leaving. Flake hasn't been seen of late.

Whitehouse and Sasse hopefully agreeing how disgusting this whole thing is but probably talking racquetball. And Grassley almost ate it trying to sneak by a couple staffers.Nonlinear FC wrote: ↑Fri Sep 28, 2018 12:35 pm Some serious back door stuff going on right now. Senators keep getting up and leaving. Right, there are degrees of bad and Kavanaugh has effectively said, beyond just being conservative, he’ll serve in an anti-Dem mindset.

O'Donnell (NBC) is reporting they are in discussions about pausing the process and re-opening the FBI background check.

So, Flake votes to move it out of Committee, but won't vote Yes on the floor unless they reopen the background check.
So, if he sticks to his guns, and he also just gave Collins and Murkowski a huge cover story.

Re: Bart O’Kavanaugh hearings and inevitable confirmation
Prediction: Flake and Collins vote No; Manchin and Heitkamp vote Yes. Kavanaugh gets confirmed without further investigation and Flake and Collins get to pretend to be reasonable. No reason at all for Flake to vote to advance him out of Committee if he actually wanted the investigation to occur.

Re: Bart O’Kavanaugh hearings and inevitable confirmation
Yeah, maybe Joe.
But I think he thinks that not allowing it out of Committee was procedurally problematic. And like I said, this gives a bunch of fence sitters the logical and political coverage they need to vote no.
And I really don't think Manchin is going to fall on this sword. This is way too toxic. His turnout would be terrible.

Neither Collins or Murkowski have said either way. Both of stated they think there should be more investigation.

So the Washington Post commentator said that it's up to trump as to whether there will be a week's delay.
