SC, touch base with Enterprise Rent a Car. They are always hiring drivers to help get cars and move them around different branches. No pressure, normal hours and very little walking. I have no idea what the pay is, but they don’t hire drivers under 50 usually.

Took me half a day to get this one. Probably much less time required for DSafetyguy.

Well understand if your wife is working in Tahoe, you’re probably living in Nevada (for tax reasons) and probably in Reno area unless you’re a weirdo that Carson City appeals to you (though I suppose all that would really depend on where the job is physically located). That said, that area is nice. Even Carson City isn't really that bad. And you’d see me at least four times a year (that may a point in CO’s favor).

Re: Swamp Job Questions
I get that there are a lot of other factors involved than a simple "will you, yes/no?", but I don't understand why basically promoting a show on another network is approved. Seems like a baseline consideration.

Yesterday my wife accepted a position at a hospital here in town with a salary within 5% of what she was making before, offset by the cost of her benefits quite a bit. Good news and we were both extremely relieved. Today UC Health called her and set-up a phone interview next week. Hopefully I may have been premature telling my boss she won't have to worry about me moving to Colorado anytime soon.

Congrats! That was a quick turnaround and hopefully a much better boss to work for.Giff wrote: ↑Fri Oct 05, 2018 4:38 pm Yesterday my wife accepted a position at a hospital here in town with a salary within 5% of what she was making before, offset by the cost of her benefits quite a bit. Glad to hear the good news. This mean you’re in for Lucero in Austin in a few weeks?

Re: Swamp Job Questions
Glad for good new Giff.
I’m at a major crossroads now in my career. This time least year I was being recruited to go corporate R&D (with my current company), and ended up accepting the job in January. For better or worse, lots of shit happened in the intervening months, and I was ‘loaned’ back to help support my home plant specifically in April. For the last four months, I’ve done two jobs, and have really had a good year. Recently, I was specifically asked to go help one major production center who were really struggling and where I have expertise. With some sweat and backslapping (sounds like gay steel mill bdsm) we got things turned around, and saw a 30% increase in productivity. Because of some issues specifically related to that, they axed a recent technical hire in that area, and are now sniffing around on if I want to go back there on a full time gig with a wide net of responsibilities. It’s odd, as that’s a job I ran from five years ago to move into the supply side, which has been a total boon for me. I’ve gone from being an anonymous process guy to the executive track. So I’m not 100% sure I would go back. It’s going to be a tough job, as there are two senior technical engineers nearing retirement (one of which is my old mentor) both of which need to be backfilled. And if I want to continue advancing, I’ll have to find a replacement for myself as well. I’m also not at all enamoured of the current site production manager. But at the same time, I’ve basically made myself indispensable for them, so might be able to name my price. I’m now considering giving them a list of conditions to be signed on before accepting, including a planned next stop after a fixed period. The pool for my specific skill set is really only as deep as a handful of people at a handful of companies, as we use some very specific technology that’s not widely adopted. So if they want to fill internally, it’s either me or one of a couple guys we have in Europe. If they bring the Europeans, they have to pay them the expat package which is really expensive (10% salary bump, tax match, housing, car, and school for their kids). I’m thinking about requesting roughly 80% of that, which would be a sizable bump and would put me as the second highest paid local technical person. If I can get them to guarantee my next step, it was assuage my fears of being pigeonholed.
All in all, I can’t even comprehend that I’ve gotten to this point. I realize I’m very fortunate. Very grateful of my wife who was instrumental in getting me to grow as a professional, and who taught me to push for more, always.

Re: Swamp Job Questions
Sounds like a good problem. Before you agree to go back have a good conversation with your current superiors about your ambitions and concerns. See if they’ll make any commitment to you about your longer-term future.
