AOC for SotH. Trigger all the MAGAchuds.
(I know she technically can't, but it would be awesome.)
Sure, she can. You technically don't even have to be in Congress to be Speaker of the House. (Some people were suggesting the Dems should rally behind Beto for Speaker, even though he'll be out of Congress in January.
But that said, I love how much the right hates AOC too. Brings out all of their hatred of women, minorities and the poor all at once somehow.
But what happens if Trump and Pence drop dead from shock? Does the presidency skip her and go to the Senate Pro Tempore immediately because she's not old enough?
And why is the Pro Tempore next in line when the Majority Leader is the one with power?

Oh, I see what you're saying. Yes, if she were elected Speaker, she would be skipped in the line of succession for the presidency (until age 35 at least). Same as if a member of the Cabinet is not a native-born American (and thus also not eligible for the presidency).

You down with AOC? Yeah, you know me. Damn, she's dunking on fools.
Yeah, she’s great. She took some heat from partisan Dems for pressuring Pelosi to make climate change/
environmentalism a part of the next legislative agenda, but it was absolutely the right thing to do (and Pelosi acknowledged as much). A big part of why I think having younger party leadership is essential is the huge contrast between someone like AOC, who is a proud and confident advocate for a progressive agenda, and the majority of national Dems, who came of age in the Reagan years and are constantly terrified of seeming “too liberal.” I mean, our last presidential nominee thought it would help her campaign to tout her friendship with Henry Kissinger, perhaps the single most odious American political figure of the 20th Century. Even Obama chose Lieberman as his Senate mentor and made a point of praising Reagan on a semi-regular basis.
Probably because Manfred and MLB’s owners, like many very rich people in this country, care a lot more about their tax rates than they do about social justice? If Trump had even the slightest capacity for self control, and could avoid using Twitter or insulting other Republicans, he’d be as popular as Reagan with elite Republicans.
And that's the sad truth. It truly does not matter what kind of hidden scumbag is at the top of the Republican food chain. As long as he is statesman enough, he'll be fine with donors.
The only problem is there are far more MAGAchuds at the bottom who wants a president that acts like them so that's why Trump is the way he is. He caters to that majority.

Remember in The Wire when Bunny Colvin realized that you'll never be rid of drugs, drug users, and drug dealers and turned a section of Baltimore into Hamsterdam?
Well let's do that for pedophiles, white supremacists, and Republicans at large who insulate these types.
The Confederate Purity of Missibama can be this totally not gay, fully Christian, all white ethnocentric utopia where these people can thrive on the nostalgia of segregation, pray to white Jesus riding a T Rex and wielding an AR 15, and be fully powered by clean coal.

Missouri voters passed "Clean Missouri" on election day. It required politicians to take time off between their state jobs and lobbying, would attempt to end partisan redistricting and had some other long overdue common sense ideas to overhaul Missouri politics and make it more transparent.
Missouri GOP today funded a committee to overturn it.

She’s going to be a political force because she’s one of the few figures in national politics who actually understands what it’s like to be a young, working class person in the 21st Century economy. Even Biden, who’s the establishment’s idea of a “man of the people,” spouts the usual bullshit about how Millenials just need to suck it up and be tougher.
Honestly I feel like I'm in the minority of millennials who actually have the ability to live in a self sufficient way. The economic downtown 10 years ago didn't affect me. I don't have massive, crippling student debt and I bought a house that I'm having a kitchen renovated on currently. It isn't that we're lazy, we're fucking poor and can't afford shit. Thanks, trickle down economics!
But seriously. How can a cohort that barely broke into the job market a decade ago have such a drastic impact on it? Only the most entitled generation on the planet can look at 25-35 year olds and say that we're the fucking problem. I seriously can't wait until Boomers are gone forever.

Well, to be honest I think Johnnie proves a great point that the military is not a bad avenue to take and come out self sufficient. Are you gonna eat some shit? Likely. But I’d say most of us have eaten some shit at some point.
I’m having deja vu
My gall is sufficiently mitigated. Thank you for your concern.

In a very general and broad sense, yes. The knowledge that your essentials are taken care of and you get a paycheck plus federal holidays off (in many career fields) plus the chance to see the world is outstanding. Especially if you grew up in a podunk shithole with little opportunity to get out.
However, every single person's experience will be different. (The career field, the base one is assigned to, the command structure, your supervisor...etc) And for some it might actually be worse than having come in at all. It all depends on timing and needs of the military.

In some ways it's like a communist country. "Oh, here's what you're good at. This is going to be your job now".

Daytime TV is subtly a disgusting conduit for GOP propaganda. During Thanksgiving I was visiting Phoenix. To have something on in the background while we eat breakfast and start prepping for the day we had Fox10 on.
You see the usual uplifting story, a local story, a man on the street story, weather.. Etc. Randomly thrown in was an anti-Mueller story (I think that Jacob Wohl thing) without context or anything. The Talking Head Robotic White Man had reported it with a "Would you believe that?" kind of voice. And then it just went into Black Friday shopping.
This morning I'm in San Antonio and in the lobby area of my hotel for breakfast I'm watching NBC4 and they are doing the same boring morning churn. Out of nowhere is a story about Jerome Corsi suing Mueller. Nothing about, oh, I don't know, Trump being an unindicted co-conspirator and "Individual 1."
These are the type of mind control things that get public perception to turn. It's sneaky and propagandist.
