Hate that I have to root for St. Louis, but I gotta stick with my NL. No fucking way I can root for Boston, especially with those dumb Amish beards they're sporting.

These are the two teams I hate the most, well maybe the Braves can rival the hate, so I want to see a New Madrid earthquake or something. At least I don't have to worry about watching the games anymore.

I've been enjoying watching the playoffs thus far and rooting against these two teams. I have no idea who I'll root for, I'll just watch and see how it goes.

Any predictions? I really don't know who to pick, it seems like such an even match. I'll go with Boston in seven.

This Boston Strong thing couldn't carry the Bruins. And I don't think it will carry the Red Sox. Honestly.

Cards in 6. Like it was Hawks in 6.

This is apropos of absolutely nothing. Just a gut feeling and superstition via symmetry. I'll obviously be rooting for my team, but it won't be the end of the world if they lose.

(Imagine a Red Sox fan actually uttering those words these days.)

How can an ump miss that call from 5 feet?!

Weird thing is that it didn't seem like that difficult of a call. And every other ump apparently saw it correctly.

They rarely make that call. I've seen that play called 'out' dozens of times, it is hard for me to remember a 'safe' call. They predominantly give the fielder the benefit (unfairly and incorrectly).

I've seen them overrule it after group conference, but not very often.

I don't think the 2b umpire missed the call; I think he saw it, but made the call based on 'close enough, give it to the fielder like we always do'. And they overturned it because, 'it's the fucking world series, we better get it right'.

I gotta go reanalyze the last season of Walking Dead with this same level of anality. So I am prepared to discourse with DSafe.

This is gonna get outta hand in a minute, a couple more ground balls find holes.

99% sure he missed it. He's looking at the base and assuming the catch.

Not a knock, Dsafe; I love dissecting sports, media and everything else, to the nth degree. Clearly you don't read my econ posts.

Plus, when you get to my age, everything should be better like it was in the past, when I was young, and walked to school uphill both ways.

I was thinking how high our standards for TV shows has risen, because the quality of the best TV shows is an all-time high. Golden Age we are enjoying. But, that is for another thread.

You're too kind, methinks. It was just a blown call. It wasn't even during a transfer, Kozma never even caught the thing.

Some local interest here in this Series, as San Carlos native Daniel Descalso is on the Cards (and, with a huge family, it seems everybody in town knows a Descalso), and Daniel Nava of the Red Sox is from the next-door town of Redwood City (also the hometown of esteemed Swamper, DaveinSeattle.) Descalso and Nava actually went to the same high school.

So, I have dinner guests, and the in-game chatter dies. Fine.

Other guys turn to throw/kick the ball around the yard a bit. Rosenthal and Breslau. Sounding a bit jewey for October baseball. Wacha just doesn't give a fuck about the big stage, apparently. Didn't flinch after the blast, I like that. I also like that Beltran showed up, playing through bruised ribs. Man.

Not to call anyone the goat last night but you could certainly play Pin the Tail on the Breslow.

It's my fault. I was driving when he came into the game and the announcers had to say how he hadn't given up a run in the month of October. I didn't have any wood to knock on to re-reverse the jinx. Also they didn't comment on how many times Breslow has thrown the ball into the 5th row of the 3rd base box seats. I can now confirm that number is at least 1.

Nice effort by WakkaFlockaFlame last night. Can't count on Wainwright to waive everyone off a pop-up and then be all "lol, jk guise" every night.

I think the goat was Salty.

On that play, when the throw was offline to the first base side of home plate, there was no way Salty could have gotten the speedy Kozma on a reverse swipe tag. That throw had to be perfect.

Salty should have just conceded the tying run and block the ball, keeping runners at 1st and 2nd with 2 outs. 2-2 isn't the worse score in the world for the home team.

There were three misplays in that sequence. Gomes made a terrible throw when you consider how shallow he was in left. Saltalphabetamacchia wouldn't pull off of the plate to make sure the ball stayed in play; although he surely knew Breslow was behind him, he was never making the out at home on that throw. And then the Breslow souvenir to the crowd on the secondary advance.

immediately clear; 3B umpire made the call immediately. Doesn't have to be intentional. Doesn't have to be avoidable by the fielder. unless the rule book has recently changed.

ETA: too bad a bunch of ignorant bs blather jibber jabber will now detract from one of the best baseball games I have ever watched. And good guy but controversy magnet Jim Joyce is 3B umpire.
