Salford City FC
Doing a quick search, this Class of 92-owned club has been brought up a few times over the years. I watched the Netflix/BBC series over the Holidays and I'm now very much following this thing.
As a quick recap, the Class of 92 in English football parlance refers to a set of ManU players that came up during the salad days of Ferguson. This team turned into the team that trebled and is probably the most successful team in club history. 5 of those guys bought a VERY down market team called Salford City FC... Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and the Neville brothers.
Note: Salford is a "suburb" of Manchester, and a Manc friend told me the other day that is the kind of place you would look over your shoulder after the sun went down. Blue collar, but with an edge.
The latest news is that David Beckham (another class of 92er) bought another 10 percent stake last week, which means the Class of 92 now owns a controlling stake with Singaporean Valencia FC owner and business dude Peter Lim now owning 40 percent.
So, the BBC/Netflix series picks them up just as these guys got involved when the team was in the 9th(!) division of the English pyramid. They are now sitting in second place in the 5th division, firmly rooted in a playoff spot to earn promotion to the The League*. I know we were following Blackpool for a spell, but, man... It feels fun to watch this team and see where it goes.
* - The top 4 divisions in England are called The League, because at that point, all leagues are fully professional and must meet certain stadium ground and other club minimum facility/spending requirements.

It’s a neat story. I do need to watch the netfix thing.

Aren’t The Smiths from Salford? Or Joy Division. One of those fuckwad bands.

The treble winning season, and the Class of 92 are basically how I fully got into soccer in general, and Man U specifically. That being said, I'm tired of hearing from each and every one of these fuckers. I'm sure I'll eventually watch this, but I'm a little over this group.

Yeah, you're right, but even he's not nearly as likeable as a human than he was as a footballer.

Giggs was an amazing player and I enjoyed him tremendously. But that’s it.

Yeah, I don't really care all that much about these guys one way or another. I'm not a ManU fan, but I respect them as players.
For me, it's really rooted in watching the tv shows and getting into the chase for promotion.
ETA - The show incorporates these guys, but it's a good mix of the Class and then the players, managers, staff and fans... I was much more interested in the non-Class of 92 folks, tbh.

Climate change takes another pelt... Salford City FC's match against Maidstone in the 3rd round of the FA Trophy competition being postponed to next Tuesday due to frozen pitch conditions.
Beckham, who just got approved in his directorship role by the FA, was planning to visit the Ammies tomorrow for the first time in this new position.

Re: Salford City FC
After a bit of a rough patch in early-March, Salford have stormed to the top of the National League table. They've been on a 4 win, 1 draw run. While the second place team has a game in hand, Salford have the inside track at the automatic promotion.
4 games left, and only one of their opponents with much to play for (5th place Fylde will be trying to stay in the Playoff Promotion hunt. 2-7 place make the playoffs. The other 3 opponents aren't relegation challenged and don't have a realistic shot at a top 7 spot.
Quite a run... Fascinating to see how it winds up.

Re: Salford City FC
And it's the final day of league play today.
Leyton Orient - 88 pts
Salford City - 86 pts
Solihull Moors - 85 pts
--
Fylde - 79 pts
Salford v. Fylde
Leyton v. Solihull
So, with a win, Salford get the automatic promotion slot. Fylde is trying to stay in the mix for the playoff spot, so they have lots to play for. I don't know all the permutations that go with various draws.
Both games are in about the 30th minute, level at zero.

And, the incredible rise continues.
3-0 curb stomping of Fylde has Salford joining the League.

Re: Salford City FC
A quick update to say the Ammies appear to have mired themselves in the middle of the table. They sit 14th out of 24, about a dozen points shy of a playoff spot.
A reminder that this is their first full season as a fully professional side, playing in the League Two (which is Level 4) and the lowest of the fully professional leagues. Another reminder that they were in non-League Level 8 as recently as the 2014-15 season.
Maybe catching their breath and gathering themselves isn't the worst thing in the world for this club.
