Japan defeated Iran 3-0 in the Asian Cup semifinal
Wanted to show the 2nd Japanese goal. There is no way that's a penalty for handball.
Even VAR couldn't correct it.

That's a subjective call and very close to the line, but I'd call it a handball. The defender didn't intentionally handle the ball, but his arm was away from his body when the ball hit, so for me, that's a handball.

But he's sliding and the ball hits the arm behind him. Where else can his arm be? Unless you are penalizing him for leaving his feet and purposely leaving a trailing arm.The Sybian wrote: ↑Mon Jan 28, 2019 6:05 pmdegenerasian wrote: ↑Mon Jan 28, 2019 5:09 pm

If here were standing then yes, his arm is extended and that's a foul.

It could really go either way, and I wouldn't be upset if they didn't call it, but I would call that a penalty. It doesn't matter if there was nowhere else his hand could be, he gained an advantage by having his arm out away from his body.degenerasian wrote: ↑Mon Jan 28, 2019 6:12 pmBut he's sliding and the ball hits the arm behind him. The 2022 World Cup hosts Qatar win the Asian Cup for the first time!

I looked at the squad and there are 7(?) players not born in Qatar?

I hate to say it, but today, that's a fairly routine save. Take Pele and Word Cup out of the equation, and it's a header from 8 yards out. Banks had a ton of time to set up as the cross looped in, he was just waiting for it.

Nah dude.
Nope.
Negatory.
That save is top class. He has to go from guarding against a near post cross (check that Brazilian dude sitting right on top of him at the 6*) keep his footwork solid as he slides over with the cross and then make a cat-like reflex save on a rocket header.
That is fucking text book stuff. Is it the best save ever made? No. But it is an absolutely beautiful play and deserves its place in history.
* - This is what really makes it an incredible play. If not for that guy on his near post, yes, he can just slide over from a position closer to the center of his goal. But that guy forces him off his line and way farther over than you'd normally see a keeper who knows a cross is coming. That he is so far off his line and off center makes that a VERY difficult play for a lot of goalies. Most goalies would've been in scramble mode and they wouldn't have had their feet set and ready to make a save in either direction.

Re: All threads are temporary. This one's about soccer.
Rass, this is why I hated to say it. I knew I'd get blowback. I see your point, and maybe he made it seem easier by getting his feet set quicker than most, but it looks like he is in position before the ball gets to Pele, and the ball isn't hit all that hard, and not well placed. Goalies today are miles ahead of Banks' day athletically, so I do think it was comparatively a great save for his era, but today, I think every EPL goalie makes that save almost every time.Nonlinear FC wrote: ↑Tue Feb 12, 2019 10:11 am Nah dude.

Yeah, one of the things I always found pretty funny (ridiculous) was the notion that Banks MEANT to put that ball over the bar. The brilliance of the play is getting to the spot and figuring the angle off the bounce. But he wasn't calculating beyond that.

Man U rolling, up 2-0 just before the break at Stamford Bridge. The half an eye I've had on the game has me thinking the game is closer than the score would have you believe. Pogba had the assist on the first goal to Herrera, crossing in from the left. Paul scored on a diving header off a cross from the right from Rashford. The thing that inspired me to post though was that Pogba's celebration after his goal, was basically him just staying where he was in the 6 yd box on the ground, like he'd just finished a long stretch on a slip and slide. Not sure I've ever seen a player celebrate (and teammates pile on) right in front of the opposition goal. No one from Chelsea seemed to take offense, but it struck me as potentially against the unwritten rules regarding celebrations.
