They should obviously lodge opposition to any military action or assistance in any military operation but beating that drum too loudly isn’t going to be a winner. I’m sorry that realpolitik exists

I've been worried ever since he was elected that he'd take the military option to create a distraction from his various "issues".

Eh...He created a humanitarian crisis by locking children in cages at the Mexican border. Fix that shit first and then worry about humanitarian crises elsewhere. Also, there was also a sizable # of MAGAs who want NO MORE involvement in foreign wars, and Clinton was viewed as a war hawk.

Plus, let’s be real here. This has nothing to do with humanitarian concerns.EnochRoot wrote: ↑Mon Jan 28, 2019 10:10 pmEh...He created a humanitarian crisis by locking children in cages at the Mexican border. If anything, a coup or worse yet a shooting war in Venezuela will likely only worsen the humanitarian issues there. I’m very disappointed that the only potential Democratic candidates to oppose this are Gabbard (strongly) and Sanders (somewhat more tepidly).
Re: Random Politics
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
Re: Random Politics
Remember when things of this level were scandal worthy?
Mitch McConnell: making Election Day a federal holiday is a Democratic “power grab”
But here's the thing: There are plenty of people who would still be working on this federal holiday. It'll assist in getting more people to vote, but it isn't something better like having polls open on the weekend through Tuesday.
So his argument is basically "if we give people more opportunity to do things they're supposed to do, my political party will lose power."
The relentless power plays this guy makes and seemingly goes unchecked when he makes them are disgusting.

Right?
Like, how else do you from a 50 year effort to suppress voters you don't like? It's all such obvious bullshit when you line things up like this.

It amazes me how stupid people are when it comes to this. Nice work ljam
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.
Re: Random Politics
Oh, well that's neat.
You'd think a thing like that would've come out during the campaign.

Re: Random Politics
Yeah, somebody fucked up the opposition research. It seems like there was a targeted attack against Northam. The Right were going nuts on him earlier today and maybe yesterday by misconstruing something he said about abortion. I'm curious if all the Northam news spurred a classmate to out the picture, or if some group went out looking to attack him. Either way, he immediately admitted to it, and numerous high-profile Dems rushed to Twitter to call for Northam to quit. While I like the integrity of putting principle before party, it's not sustainable when the opposition party doubles down on literally every single scandal, no matter how shockingly horrible.

I'm so over Democrats immediately condemning what's necessary to condemn and the Republicans completely going radio silent until over attention gets diverted elsewhere and we forget. It's fucking frustrating.

You’d think that if the Democrats are going to take the position of giving a shit about any bones in a politician’s closet (however ugly), then maybe they’d vet their own gubernatorial candidates more effectively?
Northam should’ve been outed when he put his hat into the ring when he ran for office for the VA State back in 2007.

And he had yet to piss off the pro-lifers to such an extent that they'd focus their wrath upon him.

Then it’d behoove the southern Democrats to simply have a unified response to things like this, and that’s, “Shit’s complicated. Elections have consequences.”Pruitt wrote: ↑Sat Feb 02, 2019 8:57 amBut the staffing levels of those whose job it is to dig up dirt are much smaller at that level.EnochRoot wrote: ↑Sat Feb 02, 2019 8:49 am You’d think that if the Democrats are going to take the position of giving a shit about any bones in a politician’s closet (however ugly), then maybe they’d vet their own gubernatorial candidates more effectively?

The general to the right of current Air Force Chief of Staff, General David Goldfein, is General Joseph L. Lengyel, Chief of the National Guard Bureau.
His ribbon rack is upside down. (You may have to zoom in to see it better.)
This shot was on for a split second last night, but someone noticed. That's so guard.

'special place in hell' for those who backed Brexit without a plan
Good lord...The European council president insisted that the EU was not “making any new offer” to Britain, and demanded a “realistic suggestion” from the prime minister on how to end the impasse.
Speaking to journalists after meeting the Irish prime minister, Leo Varadkar, Tusk also took aim at Jeremy Corbyn, claiming there was a leadership void at the heart of the remain movement.
Tusk said he knew there were “still a very great number of people” in the UK, on the continent and in Ireland who wanted to reverse the decision. “I have always been with you with all my heart,” he said, “but the facts are unmistakable.
“At the moment the pro-Brexit stance of the UK prime minister and the leader of the opposition rules out this question. Today there is no political force and no effective leadership for remain.”

Re: Random Politics
I watched the Brexit movie on HBO (which was very, very good BTW) but the main takeaway from that movie that I came away with was an awed sense of relief that the American Constitution contains no legal method for a national referendum on anything because holy fuckballs would that end up being a never-ending cycle of bullshit.

Sure but won't having no confidence votes every week be a worthwhile trade off for that.brian wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 2:58 pm I watched the Brexit movie on HBO (which was very, very good BTW) but the main takeaway from that movie that I came away with was an awed sense of relief that the American Constitution contains no legal method for a national referendum on anything because holy fuckballs would that end up being a never-ending cycle of bullshit.

Based on evidence so far, we are going to be dealing with some crazy shit from the cohort that went through high school and college in the late 70's/early 80's. The Animal House generation.
Re: Random Politics
So much fun (not) hanging out with my father all week, trying not to let his right-wing politics get my goat.
This morning...
Him: They still say that there was Russian involvement in the presidential election. Jeez, I think it's time to move on and let it go.
Me: What? Why would they do that?
Him: Well, they haven't found anything yet. Seems like it's just harassment at this point.
Me: I think they've found plenty.
