NHL can't figure out what it's doing. There will be no 2020 World Cup.

Erik Karlsson has been playing with a "lower body injury" that people say is his ankle. Sat out Sunday's game and will now sit out next two games and probably the All-star game in San Jose. I'd guess they replace him in the ASG with Mark Giordano.

And, there's this!

Caps are in a bit of a tailspin right now. Had to go to the players only meeting after an 8-5 lose to the Blackhawks and another team meeting this morning delaying practice by 30 minutes. 5 game losing streak with another game where they gave up 7.

Also interesting game fact. All 5 goals by the caps were 5 v 5 and all were scored by Defensemen.

Both Sharks and Golden Knights lost last night.

If the Flames win tonight theyll lead the division by 8 and finally get some distance.

With the addition of Gritty, the Rangers and Wings are the only teams left without a walk-around furry mascot.

Also, Harvey the Hound is the only one who doesn't wear a jersey.

The crowd sarcastic clapping Gibson when he finally made a save was hilarious.

I taped the game off of the NHLNetwork feed. They inexplicably showed the results from the fucking game. So, that was... anticlimactic.

Good move for the Leafs

The MapleLeafs have acquired defenceman Jake Muzzin from Los Angeles in exchange for forward Carl Grundstrom, the rights to Sean Durzi and Toronto’s first-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft.

Lots of tears in Toronto this April when the Leafs go out in the first round.

So the Stars and Penguins made a trade which just happens to be for the same assets that they traded last year
The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired a 2019 fourth-round draft pick from the Dallas Stars in exchange for Jamie Oleksiak, it was announced today by Penguins executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.

The Penguins will now own three fourth-round selections in the 2019 NHL Draft – their own choice, the Buffalo Sabres’ pick and this pick acquired today, which originally belonged to the Minnesota Wild.

Last year, when the Penguins acquired Oleksiak from the Stars, the Pens traded a fourth-round pick to Dallas. That pick was going to be the higher pick between Pittsburgh’s original fourth-round pick and Minnesota’s fourth-round pick. Pittsburgh had acquired the Wild’s pick in a trade with the Arizona Coyotes.

Pretty fair deal all things considered. They still have to re-sign a couple other RFAs including Marner, so that's gonna be a tight fit for next year.

Leafs had no leverage and it's not like he was going to get much -- if any -- less in arbitration. Probably would have cost more like McDavid money ($12.5M or more) to buy an extra UFA year or two.

Also could have been crippled by an offer sheet.

Wonder if the Rangers could get clever with retained salary and players this year (Hayes/Zucc) plus futures that won't affect next year's cap.

Will also be interesting to see if Marner gets an offer sheet. It would make more sense for him since I'm guessing the offer might be able to slide under the barrier ($8.25M AAV IIRC?) where it would cost a first, a second and a third as opposed to Matthews level where it would have been three firsts. Worth that cost in draft picks for Marner.

No way Marner signs an offer sheet at that AAV. He's $10+m easy.

Yeah, if someone puts that offer out, you wonder if they're working with Toronto versus trying to get Marner.

Well ... if Marner gets the Nylander offer, that $8.25MM is better. I'm saying if a team is really going to present an offer sheet and its that low, I might not believe they were ever intending on getting the player and perhaps were trying to reestablish RFA precedent.

Have you ever seen Marner's father interviewed? He's an aggressive guy with a very high opinion of his son's market value. He's already let it be known that his boy is going to get a fat contract when his time comes. Could be another Nylander situation.

Marner's contract should look more like Mathews' than Nylander's.

Cap sign backup goalie Copley for 3.3 for 3 years. Getting ready for the expansion draft. Hotlby is a free agent after next year (as is my CVS line buddy Nicky Backstrom.) Caps also have top prospect Ilya Samsonov and 2014 second-round pick Vitek Vanecek in the system. Feels like the Caps have some options between the nets when they will have salary cap pressure.

Don't like him but agree. That was a dirty play by Cole and he paid for it, one and done. That's the only type of justice on that play I like. Wilson saw it, took care of it. No blind head shots, no waiting until 20 minutes later. Settle it and be done.
