If I'm being forced to choke down Duke-MSU, at least one of these teams will be losing in excruciating fashion.

At the time of the play, I thought this out of bounds review with 8.4 seconds left might be the longest in NCAA history.

I don't live in MI, so it's easy for me. But I will ALWAYS root for Duke to die in a fire. ALWAYS.

On the drive? They got him with the body and on the arm.

I’m sitting #1 in a 140 person pool with 3 of the 4 final four and the final pair. I’m big time team Shirley right now.

Same. I had two of the four FF teams (Virginia and MSU), but if Kentucky had won would have had three.

But I have UVA winning it all so if they do I have a chance.

I’m going to root for UVA but IMO Texas Tech has been the best team this tournament. They’ve been really impressive and will be hard to beat now that they have a much improved offense to go with that awesome defense.

Whew, what a weekend of games.

I had a hard time going to sleep last night. What an incredible game with an incredible finish. And my team actually won it! I was in 8th grade the last time UVA made a Final Four. At that point in my life, I just assumed those happened all the time (UVA had just been three years prior and barely missed out the year before).

And to have this finally happen the year after UMBC ... well, I think it's the kind of thing that has made all of us gravitate to sports.

AB, I'm sorry your Cats lost to Auburn. I don't particularly like Cal or UK, but I really think Bruce Pearl is a snake. The man can coach, but he's a snake.

I wouldn't have actually minded losing to Kentucky in the Final Four - all that talent - but I do NOT want to lose to Bruce Pearl. I'm hoping Guy can keep it up and De'Andre Hunter can snap out of his minor funk. And while we're at it, let Diakite keep playing the best ball of his life along with little Kihei Clark. If UVA is hitting shots like in the second half last night, I don't think Auburn stands a chance. Hell, anyone without a nuclear hot Carsen Edwards wouldn't have stood much of a chance.

Joe K wrote: Sun Mar 31, 2019 4:04 pm To expand on my last post, Kentucky was 16-60 on 3s this tournament. That’s atrocious and the fact they came this close to the Final Four is a testament to how well they played defensively. It’s almost impossible to win in today’s era of basketball without even competent outside shooting.
watching Kentucky very closely for the last two games ... they're incredibly athletic, but damn, that's their best trait

good news for AB is that team should be back intact next year minus PJ and Travis

They would benefit, sure. But they've been recruited over, too. Not saying they wouldn't be good enough to beat out the freshmen, just saying that's been the cycle.

Ashton Hagans was an utter disaster yesterday. The one thing you cannot do is let Auburn turn you over. That's more important than the threes, IMO. And he was loose with the ball.

I love that Duke was deprived of one more possession because they didn't have enough fouls called on them. I don't think it's ironic but it's something.

The turnovers were an issue but if you can hold Auburn to 60 points in regulation you’ve just gotta find a way to generate enough offense to win. Kentucky only scored 40 points in the last 30 minutes of regulation. That’s just brutal given their talent level. It’s especially frustrating considering that Kentucky scored 80+ on Auburn in both regular season games. But Calipari just defaults to taking the air out of the ball come tournament time.

ETA: Calipari even did this with the 2012 title team. They were up 41-27 at the half would’ve beaten Kansas by 25+ in the title game had he let them keep pushing the pace but instead Kentucky slowed it down, scored only 26 points on the second half, and the lead got down to 6 in the final minute.

Most games see both teams get to the bonus in the 2nd half. But do any coaches encourage teams to give up a soft foul to have that as an option late in a close game?

Absolutely, I've seen it. I've seen a coach sub in the 12th man just to ring up three quick fouls before to get to 6.

It only makes sense to do that in the last minute or so of a game, but if you think there's a chance you're going to need to foul, having to foul four times in 20 seconds is a hell of a lot harder than fouling once in 20 seconds.

that must happen in one of the tv timeouts, for example the under 12:00.

Or just aggressively go for steals with reach-ins. If you don't get called for the foul, you might get a steal. It's a win-win.

It adds to the discussion we've been having about having too many fouls to give. If Auburn is in the penalty that foul never happens and the game is over.

That would have been a hard call in first minute let alone endgame. However the foul on the three was pretty clear cut.
