While we’re on the subject....

What was the highest rated basketball conference per Ken Pomeroy’s conference rankings that does not have any school that uses a color in its team nickname?

(While not determinative of the answer, you can consider “Golden” to incorporate a color.).

And I know most of you don’t have a subscription to Pomeroy’s site, but this is Gold Star Trivia here. Use your intuition.

I've spent however long thinking about stupid A-10 names like "University of Rhode Island Light Blue Rams".

It feels like Fordham should have a color in its name, but like everyone else in the league, they're the Rams.

God dammit, I actually know what all the teams in most of the conferences are about 50X better than I would know KenPom rankings and I still can't think of another possible answer.

Its wheat bread with a terrible hamburger patty and brown gravy. The bread is not toasted but its also not soft.

The color is in fact the genesis of the nickname (until a few years ago I thought it was after the bird and they were just being precious by not pluralizing it.)

The answer to my question, by the way, was the #8 conference per Pomeroy.

No, but I'll give that to you. It's Jack Nitchze?

1,3,6, 7 are all correct.

There are Hogan clubs you can still buy, I think. If they're Wilson, it doesn't overtly say, I don't think.

Another wacky WAR trivia question:

This player led the National League in WAR in 1989. He was not an All-Star that year, and did not finish in the top 10 in the MVP vote.

Well that's a weird one all around. Defensive number certainly helps, but wasn't his rep as a complete butcher? Wonder if that's the LF variance coming in again.

That was my understanding as well, and another example of why I don't really trust advanced defensive stats.

Some details of his stats, if anyone still wants to guess: .315 BA, .415 OBP, 21 HR, 59 total extra-base hits, 21 steals. For a last-place team.
