A week or two ago, I really believed Arsenal had the inside track to 3rd place. I was optimistic, bordering on confident that a CL spot was very likely. 1 point behind Spurs with a game in hand, 2 up on ManU and one up on Chelsea with a game in hand, and a much easier schedule than any of them. Fucking false hope is always soul crushing.

Pocchetino is usually right...

But taking off Alderweireld because he was on a yellow and replacing him with Foyth (FOYTH!!!) was moronic.

Alderweireld is a smart defender who rarely gets fouls. Foyth on the other hand is barely competent on his best days and his most memorable moments as a Spur was when he conceded two penalties in one game.

That change could have cost them a Champions League spot.

Hell - I typed that back when they had already picked up three yellows and almost a second yellow on one and then Son got himself thrown out - before the idiocy of the second red. Just an insane teamwide meltdown give the simple task they needed to accomplish.

Son's push was truly astonishing.

Foyth's fuckup probably didn;t surprise too many Spurs fans.

And fuck Eric Dier. He should have been thrown off the field twice.

I am so pissed off there are no words.

My daughter once asked me why I’m am Arsenal fan so I explained to her back in law school I read Fever Pitch and identified with the fanaticism a person can have with their sports teams. So I said ok, I’m going to root for these guys. That first season I followed them they went undefeated, so I said to myself “hey, root for Philly teams. At least these guys won’t repeatedly disappoint me.”

Don't forget Spurs. The last few weeks have seen some brutal soccer from these teams.

I left spurs out because they get in. They left the door wide open and Arsenal and United were all, like, nah. We’re good.

On behalf of Chelsea, I'd like to thank Arsenal, Spurs, and United for continually dropping points in all manner the last several weeks. Sure, Chelsea wasn't perfect, but we weren't quite as bad as the others.

Champions League clinched!

(Hopefully that will help keep Hazard around. It might still be a longshot, but without the Champions League, there was no chance.)

If Chelsea win the Europa League, does the EPL 5th place team get int Champions League? I know winning CL gets your league an extra bid, but wasn't sure about Europa.

I think Arsenal wanted to add some excitement to the Europa League, and back themselves into a must win situation.

Good question. I wondered that too. I actually think clinching the top four will help Chelsea win the Europa by removing that extra bit of pressure. Or not. Hard to tell with this team.

All the answers regarding qualifications...
Arsenal and Chelsea are both in the Europa League semi-finals and are among the favourites to lift the trophy in Baku. If either of them win the tournament, they will qualify for next season's Champions League group stages.

If the winners finish outside the top four in the Premier League, it will mean five English teams will be in the Champions League.

However if they do finish in the top four, then England will not get an extra spot. The team who finish third in the fifth-ranked league - France - will go into the Champions League group stages instead of the qualifiers.

There is no Champions League spot for the beaten finalists.

Leeds is a big club that hasn;t been up in a long time.

Plus, that was the first time I supported (my Grandmother's family is from Leeds).

Otherwise, Derby I guess. Villa employs John Terry and West Brom has offered nothing in their numerous Premier League cups of coffee.

Agreed. Three goals in 15 minutes for Derby and it's 3-2 Derby on aggregate with about 30 minutes left.

ETA: Welp, 3-3 now. Have a feeling this last half hour is gonna be crazy.
