Sounds like Durant is in tonight.

The way this injury has played out it sets him up for a smoother departure no matter what. It’s always easier to leave a team that isn’t the defending champ. And in this case, if they come back KD can say, “fuck you guys, you needed me all along.” After the blowup with Draymond earlier this season and the more recent suggestions that they were as good without KD, I’m sure he’d get some pleasure in saving their asses this series and then saying sayonara.
Re: 2019 NBA Playoffs Thread
This is looking pretty true the way he's been playing tonight. Even has the fake tough guy routine going.

I hate to see that and hate Toronto fans cheering for it more. Looked like Lowry chilled them out though.

Re: 2019 NBA Playoffs Thread
It sucks. Thought we were heading for a great few games. As for the Toronto fans cheering, that would be my first instinct; maybe not in public but it was great news for the Raptors.
Re: 2019 NBA Playoffs Thread
Really looked like he grabbed at his Achilles too and not just the calf. Either way, the Warriors coaching and medical staff is going to have some explaining to do. The optics are a particularly bad since everyone thinks this is his last year with the Warriors.

Yeah - kind of like the initial elation gave way to their better nature.
But to hear the morons on ABC, you'd have thought it was Eagles fans cheering Irvin's injury.
That was one ugly half - the refs sure as hell aren't helping matters either. It's like a November game.

After Kawhi’s performance this playoffs maybe people will start pronouncing my first name correctly.
My avatar corresponds on my place in the Swamp posting list with the all-time Home Run list. Number 45 is Paul Konerko with 439.

DeMarcus Cousins and Draymond Green nearly fucked them over at the end.
Offensive interference, goaltending, moving screen, and a backcourt violation.
That was close.

Why did Toronto call a timeout while on this run?
GS went 9-0 after that.

Re: 2019 NBA Playoffs Thread
Man, I just caught the presser with Bob Myers, the Golden State GM. He was extremely shaken, fighting back tears, and said "blame me" for Durant's playing which caused further injury -- which is now confirmed as an Achilles injury. And shit, with the way he was in that presser, probably a very, very bad Achilles injury.

Re: 2019 NBA Playoffs Thread
Draymond actually got a piece to Lowry’s shot, which makes sense because otherwise Lowry would’ve had to choke spectacularly to miss that badly.

Re: 2019 NBA Playoffs Thread
That's almost an Onion article. Pretty funny.
Also, big talk this morning is the collective "What the fuck?" with Raptors fans loudly cheering KD's injury -- both inside and outside the arena. I'll just chalk it up to "all fanbases have shit game," but man, that was a bad look. All of a sudden the Warrior's owner silliness was forgotten.

Re: 2019 NBA Playoffs Thread
Have you ever been to a football game when the qb goes down? Polite clapping eventually but very definite cheers and celebration before a cart comes out. I'd cheer his injury too. Raptors had a problem if Durant played the remainder. Problem solved.
Re: 2019 NBA Playoffs Thread
I think there is line crossing. There is happiness knowing it helps your team and the person injured is someone you don't know personally, so that can lead to cheering or at the very least your internal voice saying, "well that's good news." However, the Toronto fan tauntingly waving goodbye directly to Durant right after the devastating injury with his teammate watching is more direct, personal, and scumbaggy. And I agree with Pruitt on the initial elation giving way to better nature, but the announcers were ready to ship them to sports fan hell.
Yet another announcer complaint by me: replay of the refs missing a blatant foul on Klay shooting. Marc Jackson rather than stating the obvious that the ref blew it, always goes to, "YOU CAN"T COMPLAIN! YOU GOTTA GET BACK ON D!" even when the player's quick complaint has absolutely no consequence on the resulting possession. Every single time.
Re: 2019 NBA Playoffs Thread
Fuck the pearl-clutching about the Raptors fans last night. No one said shit when the Warriors fans were cheering as Harden was writing in pain after Draymond slapped him in the eye.

Re: 2019 NBA Playoffs Thread
I largely agree with Giff, but I also laughed at this post from a Phillies blogger:
The bigger question, which Bob Myers obviously tries to get in front of last night, is what the hell happened with the Warriors’ coaching, medical and management staff? Deadspin has a great summary of everything here:
https://deadspin.com/kevin-durants-achi ... 1835399519
The Deadspin article points out two non-so-subtle digs at Durant after Game 4 from two Bay Area reporters who are very plugged in with the team. First Tim Kawakami wrote this:
And got the following response from Marcus Thompson:Maybe he’ll make it back for Game 5, play brilliantly and lead the charge to a championship. Maybe he won’t make it back and the Warriors will win anyway.
It’s impossible to know. It’s probably a bit cynical to even attempt to analyze. But just ask yourself this: If Thompson or Looney or Curry or Green or Andre Iguodala had this injury 30 days ago, would the Warriors still be waiting for them?
I’m sure Myers’ emotion was genuine and he feels truly awful about what happened, but a major organizational fuckup had to have happened somewhere.
Re: 2019 NBA Playoffs Thread
Yeah, Chris Long got some shit about his tweets about Toronto fans.
Also, can you imagine the leash Draymond will have next game? No way he's getting a tech and suspended for a possible game 7.

Re: 2019 NBA Playoffs Thread
Once all the Warriors fans get over their dramatics, can we assess what this really does mean for the Knicks? Seems ... real bad.

Re: 2019 NBA Playoffs Thread
That would make it exceptionally costly for them to re-sign Klay due to luxury tax concerns in future years and it's still hard to believe they won't. Spotrac has them at nearly $15.5 million over the cap next year with only eight players on the roster if Durant opts in. Klay's cap hold is nearly $28.5 million for next year and can be re-signed for up to five years and $194 million.
(Golden State's new arena will have them flush with more than enough cash for any tax bill.)

Re: 2019 NBA Playoffs Thread
What the hell happened was they wanted the guy to get on the court. Not unreasonable even with chance of injury. It's expected. That's why you get the bucks, to put it on the line in the finals. Damn near no brainer to run him out there in a close out game when he likely doesn't play for them again if they lose.
Re: 2019 NBA Playoffs Thread
I don’t think a team that has already won 3 titles in 4 years should put a player in a position to risk tens or even hundreds of millions in future earnings in order to marginally increase their odds at a fourth one. But maybe that’s just the “pussification” of sports affecting me!HaulCitgo wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 8:58 am What the hell happened was they wanted the guy to get on the court. Re: 2019 NBA Playoffs Thread
So many "narratives" coming out of that game.
1) How Durant's injury was handled.
2) Nurse is getting pilloried for calling that time out.
3) Raptor fans being animals.
4) Is the series now over (with the Warriors a lock to run away with the next two games)?
Thursday night can't get here soon enough.

I think that's absolutely how you'd view a race car or something similarly necessary for competition but not a human being.HaulCitgo wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 8:58 am What the hell happened was they wanted the guy to get on the court. I can also understand that logic for Zdeno Chara playing with a broken jaw because he’s 42 and nearing retirement. But not an athlete in his prime years heading into free agency with expectations of a $150-200M contract.mister d wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 9:22 amI think that's absolutely how you'd view a race car or something similarly necessary for competition but not a human being.HaulCitgo wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 8:58 am What the hell happened was they wanted the guy to get on the court. Re: 2019 NBA Playoffs Thread
Did they hold Durant up at gunpoint to play the game? He had a choice. If he was afraid of getting hurt then he should have decided not to play the game. Of course the Warriors organization was pushing him to play. He is the best player in the league. He gives them an edge. But he could have easily told them he was not ready to play.Joe K wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 9:33 amI can also understand that logic for Zdeno Chara playing with a broken jaw because he’s 42 and nearing retirement.
