“Do you look daunted?!” he boomed, “You don’t look remotely daunted to me!” Which was met with a Spectoresque wall of silence, a number of faces as white as Elizabeth I’s, and a solitary cry of: “No!”. Probably from Matt Hancock, who has the sucking-up power of a Dyson, but not one of those ones with balls.
I don't even know who Matt Hancock is, but that's a great line.
I felt aswirl with warm secretions.

Meet Boris Johnson's Director Of Communications
Lee Cain, who has been appointed as Boris Johnson’s chief spin doctor after serving as his press aide in the Foreign Office and during his successful Conservative party leadership campaign, was previously a Fleet Street journalist.

The Daily Mirror reported that it had deployed him in 2010 as the notorious Mirror Chicken, who was known for turning up at public appearances by Tory MPs and ridiculing them. It said Cain “taunted David Cameron and his Tory chums as they ducked questions in the run-up to the 2010 general election”.
Here he is in 2010:

Man - your old constituency sounds wonderful:
The Liberal Democrats won 13,826 votes with the Tories taking 12,401, a margin of 1,425 that overturned the Tories’ previous majority of more than 8,000. It was a sobering night for the Labour party (1,680 votes), which was beaten into fourth place by the Brexit party (3,331), and only just held on to its deposit. Ukip (242) came last behind the Monster Raving Loony party (334).

I ever thought of the implications of having tens of thousands (maybe more?) Brits losing their jobs in Europe and having to come home.

Plot is thickening again - almost like hot tar at this point.

After last night's by election, the Tory majority is one. So...

Tory rebels threaten Boris Johnson after majority cut to one

One of the most prominent Conservative supporters of a second referendum told the Guardian on Friday he was actively considering defecting to the Lib Dems or sitting as an independent, a move that would leave Johnson at the helm of a minority government.

Dr Phillip Lee, the former justice minister, who first suggested he could quit the party in his own podcast, On the House, told the Guardian he was not alone among colleagues considering defecting or resigning if the government pursued no deal. “I have things to think about over the summer, but it is not just me,” he said.

“There are a number of colleagues who are spending the summer reflecting on what is the right way for them to confront this no-deal scenario. Of course, it is difficult for all of us because we joined the Conservative party, but it has morphed into something a lot different to what I joined in 1992.”

Watch Paddington 2 or A Very English Scandal - great acting in both.

Although calling Johnson an "over-promoted bath toy" is by far the greatest thing he's ever done.

Not Going To End Well

The U.K. is on the edge of an abyss - unless a "no-deal" Brexit is an instant, miraculous success, things are going to get really bad.

Holy snapping arseholes! Boris Johnson could be the shortest serving PM in UK history.

One Miscalculation After Another

I will say that what is happening in London right now is why I feel that the parliamentary system of government is better than the American style. Although, in a country of 350 million, who knows how this system would work.

Also, the timing of this is very interesting. With talk of a snap election...

In a statement on Twitter, Johnson said it had been an honour to represent Orpington for nine years and to serve as a minister under three PMs.

“In recent weeks I’ve been torn between family loyalty and the national interest – it’s an unresolvable tension and time for others to take on my roles as MP & minister. #overandout,” he tweeted.

So, dumb question, would Theresa May have been able to fix this? Boris Johnson seems to be getting laughed out of the room over and over.

What needs to happen? This seems like the longest non goodbye goodbye, as an outsider looking at this.

Theresa May (another political opportunist) originally was against Brexit, but she held her nose in order to stay in power and eventually had her team negotiate a lengthy document with the EU with terms of departure.

Johnson was one of the Tories who rejected the agreement (three times!). You get the feeling with him that he doesn;t actually believe in anything other than the acquisition of power.

So what is happening would seem to be the collapse of the Conservative party as those who in their guts know that leaving the EU without a deal on October 31st means pandemonium by mid-November finally flee from a no deal Brexit.

So short answer - May tried to get a negotiated Brexit. But for political reasons, her own party turned on her. And now the two big assholes Johnson and Rees Mogg are reaping the whirlwind.

Brexit: MPs vote to force government to publish no-deal plans and advisers' messages

Apparently the government commissioned a report that concluded that there will be huge and serious negative ramifications if the UK leaves the EU without deals in place.

The report has not been released.

Baloney - am I wrong in thinking that this report would persuade a lot of people that a no deal Brexit is the height of lunacy?

Also: Boris Johnson Finds His Party Loyalists Aren’t as Loyal as Trump’s
The Tory party’s revolt against Mr. Johnson, and his ruthless purging of the rebels, are reverberating through British politics, threatening his hold on power. For dispirited Republicans, though, this British revolution has become an object lesson in how a center-right party can stand up to a wayward leader.

The Conservative rebels “showed courage and principled concern about the impact of bad policy on the U.K. economy,” said Daniel M. Price, who served as an economic adviser to President George W. Bush. “This contrasts with congressional Republicans here who have mostly been meek, mute or complicit.”
