Following up on this, the article touches on it a bit, but I think the reason it's so good and has maintained the test of time is that it trucks in high school stereotypes, but doesn't depend on them and doesn't really condescend to any of the various cliques and groups.

I am a sucker for a good trailer, so the best trailers since 1990 bracket they came up with has been in my wheelhouse. Down to the final 8. Wolf of Wall Street trailer was mis-seeded.

Shea Serrano and the FOH army raised almost $10k for a food bank that was running low on meals in two hours.

Re: The Ringer
A quick search on my podcast app (Pocket Casts) shows they they have 19 podcasts. Each cast has to have at least 4 ad placements.
So, this isn't surprising considering all of their online content to read is free.

I love shea. But now I think people are preying on him and the FOH army. Bunch of people asking for money. I'm probably just too cynical.

I actually muted him about six months ago because this stuff was so constant and started to feel like that. I am a bad person though.
Re: The Ringer
But the anti Trump shitstorm he started was cool.

Cool article by Ian Karmel (stand-up/writer for The Late Late Show/host of 'All Fantasy Everything' podcast) and the Blazers and enjoying the moment.

Re: The Ringer
I went about a year without listening to Simmons's podcasts, but the NBA free agency thing brought me back in. My thoughts:
1. He's advertising a ringer podcast starring his 13 year old daughter. There is an Austin River joke in there somewhere.
2.Overall he is terrible; he has turned into the personalities that he built his career making fun of as the Boston Sports Guy pre-ESPN.
3. Nonetheless, there were great discussions with Marc Stein, Ryen Rusillo, and Omar from the Wire, so he is a very good content-getter. Someone just has to convince him to live behind the scenes more.

Re: The Ringer
I don't really peruse The Ringer that much. It seems I'm just not interested in what they are writing about.
But I listen to every Simmons podcast. And I certainly will listen to everything involving Rusillo. He's the best. Plus he gives Bill shit where other guests won't.
The thing about Simmons is that it's painfully obvious he was an only child. Listening to his podcast on 1.5x he constantly interrupts and doesn't acknowledge you finishing your point. It gets grating. He also has this recency bias tick that's infuriating. Hell change his opinion on a person from week to week or night to night depending upon the circumstance.

Re: The Ringer
Same here....I'll check there every few days, and it seems like every story is about the NBA off-season or some pop culture bit.
I've been really disappointed in their lack of coverage of the WWC. Deadspin has had way more pieces about it.
I used to listen to all of his, but I find myself just deleting a lot of them now. Re: The Ringer
Why was 1999 music worth a whole damn week? Just because it's been 20 years? This has been as poor a week for content as I can remember. I've given several of them a shot, but I just think it's been bad, forced writing.
And I am in the target audience! I was in college! Young, listening to a little of everything!

Re: The Ringer
Maybe I wasn't listening to enough, because I had no idea whose those people were or that song. And also, the riff is nowhere near reminiscint of "more than Words." That was one of the lazy things I noticed. Obviously I didn't finish that article.

A quality parody of that song around that time was "Hummer Girls". I trust you gents can find it.
And the "No Scrubs" vs. "No Pigeons" battle was worth reliving.

Re: The Ringer
That's pretty bad.An earlier version of this piece incorrectly stated that “Summer Girls” sampled Extreme’s “More Than Words.”
Anyway, I guess I missed (or forgot) that a second member of the band died of cancer last year. Sad!

Ugh, this article about Bill Simmons sub-reddit is...something.
However, it made me realize I've literally not heard or read a word from him in at least a couple of years and that made me really, really happy.

Re: The Ringer
I think with Simmons, it's just knowing what to avoid. Which for me is everything except his podcasts with Cousin Sal during the NFL season.
I find him funny in those podcasts. But I avoid the rest if them like the plague. Life's just too short.

Heh. I subscribe to that subreddit. It's the most brutally honest and level thinking about him there is, honestly.
It's like if Simmons had a bunch of friends and they jokingly created a message board to jab at him because he's so easy to make fun of, but not in a malicious way.

That subreddit is completely fucked. Banish those people to the fucking ends of the earth where no one else can see that bullshit. I know we hated MMQB a whole bunch, but even this group wasn't that fucked up about McButterworth himself. Nevermind his family.
Bill Simmons is entertaining, not informative, not knowledgable - with the exception of nba playoff history, podcaster who has access to good guests and sort of gets out of the way and hires really good people. This is why Zach Lowe is such a perfect foil to him, because Zach is not particularly entertaining. Extremely knowledgeable, extremely informative. At this point it's a running joke when they do get together Bill is going to say at least one verifiable obscenely dumb thing on the podcast, and they only do like 2-3 podcasts a year together.
I actively avoid podcasts where Cousin Sal is on/skip the Cousin Sal parts. Cousin Sal is a stupid blowhard hack who isn't funny, isn't knowledgeable, and is only Bill's friend and willing to go on his pod a lot.
