The ball was actually at the 29 and the Giants have a pretty good kicker, so it did feel a bit like they were giving the offense a free play. This is distracting from the much better decision by Shurmur to let his rookie go for it on 4th and 2 the next play.

They changed rules a few years ago to allow networks to swap occasionally. Lions/Chiefs was on FOX but would have always been CBS in the past.

I’m liking those Bears unis. I’d be down if that was their standards.

He was playing against a hellacious Bills D though.

In other QB news... I'm guessing that the only people in the Twin Cities happy with the Kirk Cousins deal all have the last name of "Cousins."

Just say Wentz and get it over with.

I know you're not talking about Trubisky because he was never that good to begin with. I'm starting to get concerned that Rosen may do just enough for the Dolphins to consider giving him another year under the guise of tanking for Trevor Lawrence and spending next draft getting parts to go around him.

Today was a good reminder how lucky the Lions are to face Mahomes once every four years instead of twice a year.

That 4th and 8 run was incredible. Watching the end of that game, and there was absolutely no doubt in my mind that he would lead the Chiefs to a win.

I was talking about tonight's game with a younger co-worker, who told me that he was originally a Steelers fan before falling prey to local pressures and some brief success in the late 90s/early 00s (when he was still in single digits in age) and became a Jets fan.

The reference to the late 90s Jets reminded me that I missed the 20th anniversary of this classic. That opening day (also Kurt Warner's official coming out party) is probably among the most enjoyable days I've ever spent watching football at a bar.

The most Jets day in history. I have never been more excited about the start of a sports season as I was about the 1999 Jets. They were destined for glory , then it all came crashing down along with the achilles of an old journeyman QB. I was just telling my son all about the exploits of Tom Tupa having to play QB due to the bizarre emergency QB rules in those days. Rick Fucking Mirer.

It doesn't help when they declined a penalty that would have made it 4th and 7.

Did they think Eli is still out there?
First Giants drive, 3rd and 7 at the WSH 33, pass is incomplete and offensive holding. Do you accept or decline the penalty?

I could see an argument for accepting the penalty if you are not the shitty Redskins defense.
I think you should accept the penalty to knock the other team out of FG range, and hope you don’t give up 10+ yards on the next play.
Yeah anytime I think you can make a good logical explanation for a decision, I don't really have a huge problem with it. So much of NFL criticism is results-biased when many of the decisions are really just coinflips and sometimes things work out, sometimes they don't.

Yeah, that's fair. What's crazy is they'll careen back and forth between pathetic and incredible from drive to drive. There doesn't seem to be too much inbetween either. There's the team that looked like they were gonna romp Arizona and then the team that let Arizona come back to almost win, the team that moved the ball more or less at will against the Chiefs and the team that still can't get one fucking yard when they need it.

If they played in a weaker division, they could be a playoff team. As it stands they'll probably be one of the best last-place teams in NFL history.

Bills fans are freaking out about the hit on Josh Allen and what would happen if someone did that to Brady. (Spoiler alert: Tom Brady is not going to traipse through the middle of the field into two defenders). As long as Josh Allen is going to play like a running back, he's going to get hit like one.

He had a run earlier in the game where I literally yelled that he was going to get himself killed.

He's got to cut that shit out - they said he was raw coming out of college, and they weren;t kidding.

Is the Burfict suspension just so the NFL can point back to it (and the inevitable appeal by the PA) as proof of how serious they were about headshots?

Proabably a little of Column A, a little of Column B (if one of those columns is getting Burfict the hell out of the league before he kills someone).

Suspending a guy for the rest of the season for an on-field incident is unprecedented and probably the most allowed under collective bargaining.
Pretty sure there will be an appeal.

That's maybe a pinch hot-takish. The main issue with Ravens has been their defense.

That's gonna take some doing. Bengals are missing three defensive lineman, still being forced to play Andre Smith at LT, and have linebackers who are only slightly more effective than if you and I lined up. Plus the whole primetime Andy thing and the Steelers likely being extra salty and the Monday night on the road thing.

Someone tallied the career list of Burfict's fines and suspensions. He has cost himself approximately $5 million to this point. I would be hard-pressed to come up with someone with a more impressive list of infractions of this sort, especially since the league has started to put up a front about caring about player health.
