Week 14 NFL Survivor Pick opinions

Post by Gunpowder »

Week 14 survivor, y'all. Just seeing what the frogs think.

I'm assuming the consensus pick is Baltimore. One guy still has NE and should likely pick them. There are four of us left, double elim, the others each have a loss. I haven't lost one...yet.

My early rankings (all games and quickly compiled):

1. NE(x) over CLE
2. Den(x) over TENN(x)
3. Dal(x) at CHI
4. Oak at NYJ
5. TB over BUFF
6. SD over NYG(x)
7. BAL over MINN
8. DET at PHI
9. HOU at JAX
10. St. Louis at AZ(x)
11. KC(x) at WASH
12. PIT over MIA
13. CIN over IND(x)
14. GB(x) over ATL(x)
15. CAR at NO(x)
16. SF(x) over SEA(x)

That leaves my picks as (in this order)

OAK
TB
SD
BAL
DET
HOU
STL
PIT
CIN
CAR

This is tough. I want to like Baltimore and Houston but can't, however, Baltimore keeps moving up. I may still take them. And I still fear Detroit. And betting on SD. Also fear not betting against NYG.

SD should fucking stomp short week road trip NYG though, right?

I love early games but I fear a team like Houston actually benefiting hugely by losing a game to Jax...somewhat on purpose.

I should preface this by mentioning I was unceremoniously eliminated in the very first week of '13 Swamp Survivor . . . but I, too, like the Ravens among your remainders for this week.

First week is such a coin toss. 70% of people should have lost if there weren't a bad penalty in the IND game and if Stevie Johnson catches a 5 yard hitch.

The first time I'll say this. I kinda like JAX this week. They've been playing better and Houston is abysmal and has nothing to play for.

I was drummed out of Swamp Survivor in week 6 though so, take that for what it's worth.

I'm not taking JAX. Both teams have a first overall pick to play for, which is frightening.

I think the Ravens are your pick. For whatever it's worth, I'm in the same situation in mine and taking them. I won the "primary" Survivor pool, but Tennessee fucked me in Week 10 and now there are two of us in the "second chance" pool.

Take a look at next week's matchups. If there is a team other than BAL you'd be comfortable taking, then take BAL this week.

As a Jets fan, I think Oakland is your best bet. But as a Jets fan, I hate this team immensely.

I usually have a rule that I never pick against the Jets in survivor pools, because it always bites me in the ass. This year I broke that rule in the Atlanta game. Sure enough... Somehow I thought Atlanta was going to be good this year. And in fairness, they did still have Julio Jones for that game.

I have the rest of the season mapped out. next week is Carolina over NYJ, week 16 is a few eh picks with probably Cin over the Vikes, then week 17 is Steelers waxing the Browns at home.

The only reason I'm the only one without a loss is that I was avoiding Jaxmas all year. I knew it was coming.

No way in hell they win two more games this year. And if they do, I will...well, watch a video of you blowing a goat, I guess.

Is Geno starting again?

The problem with the Raiders is they absolutely cannot tackle. If they could just tackle like a normal team, I think they'd actually be like easy wild card good this year.

If you don't force the Jets to pass, they have a shot. If they have to throw...haaaaaa. Haaha. Hahahaa. Jets throwing.

How the fuck does this happen in the league? A guy I was in school with at UC Davis, a wide receiver who didn't even play defense in high school, signed by the Raiders and had to play special teams. He learned to tackle in about two weeks, because he was a great athlete, and he had to do it to keep his job. (He did have Willie Brown teaching him how to tackle; maybe that is the missing element.)

They don't practice it anymore but there's still no excuse for the Raiders being like a standard deviation worse than everybody else. They had Cowboys and Giants wrapped up multiple times per play in both of those losses and just couldn't bring the guy down. Now the Cowboys think they have a big loss in Lance Dunbar when in reality, he probably just looked good because Raiders.

I forgot to lead my last post with a big BINGO! I 100% agree, gunpowder. And I've actually watched most of these games this year.

Weather is so nice, I might actually go out to the jersey swamp this sunday to watch in person. Might.

For some reason I've seen like 5 Oakland games this year. Pittsburgh obviously and then a few times picking against them in survivor. Oakland/NYG was like a late term abortion of a football game.

OAK/NYJ should be fun, though. I don't know why I think that.

There is nothing fun about watching this Jets team play, unless you are personal friends of Jeff Cumberland or Greg Salas.

As a Jet? No. No I don't. I do remember a whole lot of fucksticks wearing Tebow shirseys and jerseys. I went into Modells shortly after Tebow was cut, and there were stacks of Tebow Jerseys, the $100 ones, on sale for $10, and Shirseys for $5. That made me laugh. It'd be worth it to buy a jersey and remove the name. Of course, my father-in-law bought me and the kids the expensive Revis jerseys for X-Mas last year. I'd still prefer to wear that than any current Jet player. But I still love my Mo Lewis.

As a Bronco, when he played. He was so awesome. It was the best non-your-team viewing of the entire week.

Yeah, I kept waiting for him to chalk up a deserved loss to shut up the media hype and Sarah Palin's praising him for his bravery for "coming out" as the first Christian in pro sports. The guy goes 5-15 with 60 yards passing, 50 of them on a 2 yard screen pass to D. Thomas, and he is suddenly better than Peyton Manning. I admit I did watch a lot of Broncos 4th quarters that year.

One of my favorite Lions games of all-time was the 2011 game against Tebow when they pummeled him into oblivion. I think the score was like 38-6 and they sacked him about 7 or 8 times and hit him at least as many times. Even sweeter since the NFL's own damn website hyped the game as "Good (Tebow) vs. Evil (Suh)".

ETA: After looking at the box score it was 45-10 thanks to a fourth quarter Tebow TD pass.

As a Minnesota fan, I say take Baltimore. It hurts me to say but without Ponder the Vikings are shit. Even though Cassel did help them beat the Bears in a crazy-weird field goal filled overtime, I don't think he can carry them a whole game. 87 career tds, 61 ints.

I took Baltimore and bet big against Chicago, even though I just saw Jay Cutdog may be back.

That game was Chicago sucking and not Cassel being a G, right?
