Watched the 2nd half of the SA - Wales game - slow burning intensity, a nice antidote to the two NFL games I watched today.

NZ beat Wales for 3rd.
5AM tomorrow on the East Coast we get South Africa v. England
Like England's coach

“Rugby has changed,” he shot back when a reporter asked him about not selecting fly-half George Ford. “Come and join us in modern rugby. Give me your email and I’ll send you an invite.”

FedEx is hosting USA National Team versus All Blacks. Cheapest ticket $61....ouch...for a game that won't be that competitive....

have a buddy who has gone to the last 2 or 3 and said they are a blast. Games are fun, cities are packed with fans, etc.Baloney wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 11:30 am US bidding for the World Cup in either 2027 or 2031

So the soccer qualifications had me curious if the US was in the next Rugby World Cup. It is really a super confusing process.

Qualifying doesn't matter if you host in 2031

Re: Rugby Gets Its Own Thread (and gnarly ears)
One day during our recent vacation in Scotland and England, I attended a great, day-long rugby union sevens tournament, featuring local town teams in the Scottish Borders region where our friends/hosts live (and a couple teams from Edinborough). I’m told by my friend (and by Wiki) that this is the part of Scotland where rugby is the dominant local sport, so the quality of play was high. (Wiki also notes that many national team members and some of the best rugby footballers in Europe come from The Borderlands.)
It was a lot of fun, and a great way to have a pint and absorb the local color.

Will Major League Rugby still exist in 2031? If so can they use the world cup to amp up the very semi-pro league? Can the U.S. provide enough beer for the rugby fans that will invade?Baloney wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 7:38 am Confirmed US to host men's RWC in 2031 and Women's RWC in 2033

Certainly hasn't helped that there is only on nationally televised game a week on Fox, since CBS Sports doesn't carry it any more.wlu_lax6 wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 8:46 amWill Major League Rugby still exist in 2031? Always wondered what a Giltinis was (did not realize Austin were the Gilgronis). That is an interesting way to get a team name.Baloney wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 10:28 am Both LA and Austin have been disqualified from the play-offs

Re: Rugby Gets Its Own Thread (and gnarly ears)
The Northern hemisphere teams are each 1-1 in 3 match summer series against the Southern hemisphere powerhouses, so each series will be decided next weekend in the 3rd matches.
New Zealand vs Ireland
Australia vs England
South Africa vs Wales
Argentina vs Scotland
This simply does not happen in rugby union and I am sure at least two of the Northern teams will shit the bed...

Chile beat US yesterday in the Americas qualifying for the World Cup. So Chile qualifies and US get a chance at the end of the year in a last chance qualification tournament.
