I can’t remember a college receiving corps as good as LSU’s. Burrow puts the ball where it needs to be but they just win every one-on-one matchup downfield.

Joe, I’d argue that just this year Alabama had more depth and was as good at the top. Remember the Tide dealt with an injured Tua early in the year so had some qb swapping back and forth which impacted their overall numbers. Plus Bama is a little more run oriented. Where this LSU team has an advantage in the passing game over Bama is in their TE’s and CEH catching the ball out of the backfield. Add in that Burrow’s accuracy, specifically on the deep ball, is out of this world, and Chase and Jefferson put up video game numbers.

Hot take - I'm not that high on Burrow as a slamdunk NFL star QB prospect. He has a lot of Goff in him IMO - throws dimes when everything goes well but if it doesn't, I'm not so sure he knows where he wants to go. It helps that he can run in this regard though.

He might be really fun of course as like a swaggy Kirk Cousins that likes going deep. But as you said, whenever there isn't a wide open guy underneath, he can just go deep down the sidelines to a guy who's always single-covered and always comes up with the ball. It's the same thing for Tua.

I've felt that it was too easy to really judge three guys based on their college performance because things were just too easy in their offense - Mariota, Mayfield, and Kyler Murray. Doesn't mean I think they aren't good, it means I think it's just so hard to really project them into the NFL.

He usually throws a couple balls outside that DBs get their hands on as well, and he doesn't really move defenders around with his eyes because he doesn't have to. A lot of these records he's breaking belonged to, like, Colt Brennan.

But he's gonna be really fun next year in Cincinnati and I'm drafting John Ross on every fantasy team and hoping he stays healthyish.

The bar did get quiet during the anthem and I thought about kneeling, but decided to pray they'd say something to me instead of just giving me the stink eye when I didn't have the decency to stop checking Facebook.

In the end, he should have been fired, but MSU's athletic department is a garbage pit of humanity, so unsurprising.

Read I get from the MGoBlog rabble is general disappointment that MI won't get the satisfaction of kicking his ass in the coming years.

Recruiting battle has been lost and doesn't show many signs of turning around for MSU unless they are able to something pretty dramatic in hiring a coach. Luke Fickell seems like the most obvious choice, but is that really a good move? Cincy is poised to continue a solid trajectory whereas MSU is on a decline in one of the tougher divisions in CFB

I doubt most coaches have that mindset where they would rather stay and win in a much weaker conference instead of believing they could compete in a tough conference.

Just distilling what I've been reading. You also have to factor in being successful at Cincy and landing a better gig down the road, rather than getting bogged down at a school that is swimming in dogshit/scandal and very much on the downswing re: recruiting.

There's always a grain of salt when I'm reading MGoBlog when it comes to Sparty, but this confirms the conjecture from last week.
The last several years of controversy swirling around Michigan State University helped convince the school's first choice for head football coach to turn down the job, multiple sources told the Free Press on Monday.

And it wasn't just Luke Fickell, the current University of Cincinnati coach, who had the concerns. His wife, Amy, and Luke to some extent, had concerns about campus culture at MSU, including lawsuits roiling the football department. Those concerns were part of the reason the Fickells turned down the Michigan State football job on Monday, multiple sources with knowledge of the situation told the Free Press.

It appears that they backtracked. They should be ENCOURAGING athletes to do this. Like it or not, they reach a lot of people.

I suppose I should also correct the record - the NCAA didn't tell them to shut it down, Clemson's compliance department did in fear that it would be an issue. The NCAA said student-athletes could raise money for COVID related causes. So the NCAA wasn't the issue here.

Notre Dame visiting the Naval Academy this year. Had to move it from playing the game in Ireland. Bummer for Navy as it would be a sellout but could be limited or empty stadium.

While the press release was to announce an upcoming basketball opponent, football games will come first and they play in the same building, so it was very interesting to see the Syracuse athletic department refer to "The Stadium" instead of the Carrier Dome.

Upgrades started this spring and summer, the highlight of the first phase (there will be multiple ones) being replacing the air-supported roof with a permanent structure. The original rights deal with Carrier came prior to the building opening in 1980, before naming rights were a thing, and was a "forever" deal, so there was speculation about how the university would play the remodel as if the new version of the building should be viewed as "new" for the purpose of obtaining sponsorship.

Bring on the lawyers.

Mike Gundy apologizes, says he was ‘disgusted’ with OAN views on Black Lives Matter

After his star player threatened to boycott team activities.
OAN, which Gundy has publicly praised in the past, is a far-right cable network that fervently supports President Trump and regularly promotes conspiracy theories. A host on the network has called the Black Lives Matter movement “a farce,” while an anchor for a nightly show on OAN has described BLM as a “criminal front group.”

Did Gundy actually apologize (can't read the article)? I ask because he didn't in yesterday's clip, but Hubbard did (for handling it over social media and not "as a man").
