I wish Klopp was my coach - my literal coach. I could use this kind of support and affirmation before starting a day at work...

The Spurs-Villa game was absolutely fantastic.
Keep your eyes on this Bergwijn kid that Spurs just grabbed from the Netherlands. Kid is amazing.

I realllly wish they had a better way to determine offsides than forward-most body part. Chest/shoulders seems a better indicator of body position than a foot in stride.

Re: EPL Season 2019-20
Speaking of offside calls, I'm torn on when the linesmen should raise the flag. I get annoyed that they wait until the offside player touches the ball on plays when it's clear they are running onto the ball, but OTOH, on close plays, they should probably let the play finish out then raise the flag so VAR can verify. In the Arsenal Newcastle game, Ozil took a long pass, and the flag went up immediately as he crossed it in to Aubamayang for a clear breakaway. Linesman called Ozil off, but replay showed he was on onside. So, should the Linesman wait to flag it, or should the ref ignore the flag until the end of the play, in case it's a goal, then go to VAR? In the moment I was thinking they should let it play out when it's an immediate goal scoring chance, then blow the whistle if nothing comes of the immediate play, but that is going to cause so much controversy and sitting around waiting for the VAR ruling, which sucks. And someone will inevitably get injured in the continuation and people will get pissed if it's a clear offside and they let play continue unnecessarily. Also tough for a officials to determine if it's obvious enough to immediately call or let it play out then go to video if needed.

VAR sucks so badly that it is almost unbelievable. Linesmen now wait and don't make calls.
And there really seems to be a discrepancy between VAR crews. I mean , Maguire full on kicked Batshuayi in the nuts. VAR review said no red.
Compare it to Son;s red card (which was deserved and backed up by VAR officials.

And that was only the second worst VAR decision in that game. The tying goal they removed was ridiculous. They called an off-ball push on Azpilicueta (yes, I had to look up that spelling) somehow missing the very obvious fact that he was shoved into the guy he shoved. The announcers were speechless.
And then Maguire, who probably should have had that red, scored ManU's second goal. The last review, negating a Giroud goal because his foot was apparently offside (although they didn't show the ball so how do we know if that was the moment of the pass?), was technically correct but kind of against the point of the rule.

In a season that doesn't really mean a thing, we got lucky today. All three of those calls could have gone blue.

Sucks. He looked to be in pain at the end of the first half (even the fist pump on his first goal seemed hesitant) but when he came back out I thought he was OK. He's fun to watch.

I was half watching and saw him go off at the half, then saw him avoid celebrating like he'd played at Villa earlier in his career, and didn't put 2&2 together.

Yeah but they will get him out there with a padded cast as soon as they can.

It's players, right? If it was coaches it would have to be Sir Alex and Arsene.
For players...Becks? Stevie G? Would have to think it will be two English players.

So is this Hall of Fame just the "Premier League Era," 1992 I think, or English top flight?

Re: EPL Season 2019-20
VAR saved the day for Arsenal. Ref called off Lacazette's goal for offside, replay showed Ozil was clearly on. After way too long a break, VAR overturned the decision. First wrong call I've seen by the female AR in numerous games I've watched her work, so she still has an impressive record.
ETA: Brings up an interesting question, as I debated this with some other coaches. When the ball to Ozil was played, he was clearly on. The ball deflected off a defender on the way to Ozil. Does the deflection change the time of when you look at whether the player is onside? So let's say Ozil is on when the pass is made, and runs past the last defender, and is off at the time the ball deflects. If he receives the pass, is he offside? It used to be you couldn't be offside if the ball came off a defender, now I think you still can if it's a deflection.

Re: EPL Season 2019-20
Chelsea's had to really dig into academy players because of so many injuries, but yet had their two best back-to-back performances of the year. They beat Liverpool 2-0 in the FA Cup on Wed and then dominated Everton yesterday 4-0. Can't remember the last time they bad consecutive clean sheets. Coincidentally (or not), they started 18-year-old Billy Gilmour at center midfield in both games and he earned MOTM in both. Is Jorginho getting Wally Pipped?
