Palentine's Day!

My wife had out-patient shoulder surgery yesterday and is upstairs hopped up on percs and likely will be at least until tomorrow. Yesterday was also our general 25th anniversary of coupledom. Have a kid soccer game tonight and 3 kid basketball games over the weekend. Romance.
I felt aswirl with warm secretions.

Our 25th Valentine's Day...

Just back from the florist and will buy champagne (or prosecco) later.

Both kids home tonight, romance will have to wait.

I don't even want to say it here because its one of the most awful things I've ever heard, but were you listening to the show yesterday and did you hear the one about the couple with the 4 year old?

Yesterday KEXP did their annual cancer show where people share stories about either living with or losses from cancer. A woman wrote in about her brother and sister-in-law who were both diagnosed a few years ago and both recently learned treatments weren't working and they were terminal. Yesterday was the day they were going to tell their 4 year old. John barely got through reading it. Absolutely ruined me.

I didn't listen very much yesterday. I know when they do shows like that its going to be gut punch after gut punch. The Mom show is like that for me as well.

Ditto wishes to you all as well.

Our 22nd as a married couple. The local Kroger/King Soopers has all the flowers out today. During the other 364 days of the year (or I guess 365 in the case of 2020) you can usually pick up a mixed bouquet for $10-15. Today the cheapest they had signs up for was $25. Lo and behold if you dig through the rows of flowers you can still find some $15 ones...conveniently not advertised. Thing is my wife doesn't even like flowers that much...thinks its a waste of $$. I bought some because I just like having fresh flowers out every once in a while.

I love most holidays. Not a huge fan of today. I've been with my wife for a very long time, and I get the early days/years celebration.

But over time, I've found buying her flowers on random occasions, just brighten up her mood, goes a lot longer than bounding through the door on V day with a bouquet and box of chocolates.

This year, we're flying out to Denver to pick up The Girl, then scooting over to Keystone for a few days skiing. The Girl has class on Monday, so we'll drop her off and then have a Date Night back in the MI High City.

Should be a nice little weekend.

Son is working tomorrow, daughter is going to a movie with friends.

We have a 90 minute window in the late afternoon - yowza!

Used to be "that time of the month" referred to her period, now it refers to, you know, conjugal stuff.

My wife doesn't really care about romantic gestures at all, which honestly is great because that's one less martial minefield to tiptoe through, but I probably should have picked up some flowers today or something like that.

Yikes. My wife's primary physician signed her off for at least 4 weeks. Then the surgery center recommended she get back to PT as soon as this weekend(!) and said she could give driving a try again as soon as she's off the hardcore pain-killers.

Yeah.

My memory tells me that I got some cards from Grandmothers and my favourite Aunt, but that was so long ago, I can't be certain.

But my Mom and Mother-in-Law definitely did that when the kids were younger.

Both of our kids got cards from both sets of grandparents on my wife's side. Spoke to my mom yesterday and she said she forgot to buy them.
